Veritone, Inc. (NASDAQ: VERI) has announced significant advancements to Veritone Redact, its software-as-a-service (SaaS) application designed for automating the redaction of sensitive information, now incorporating AI-powered voice masking, an inverse blur feature, and transcription capabilities across 64 languages.
The update is intended to transform how organizations manage audio and video redaction, addressing key privacy, compliance, and productivity requirements in legal, law enforcement, and corporate sectors.
The new voice masking feature utilizes Veritone’s proprietary operating system, aiWARE, to replace original voices with AI-generated alternatives. This process maintains the original tone and inflection while ensuring the new voice is distinct and untraceable. This method aims to eliminate the exposure risks associated with traditional voice masking techniques, such as pitch alteration.
Ryan Steelberg, CEO and President of Veritone, stated that voice masking is crucial for safeguarding the privacy of vulnerable individuals, offering assurance that personally identifiable information remains secure whether protecting someone in an eyewitness protection program or anonymizing a minor in a sensitive case. The need for such advanced voice redaction solutions is underscored by recent state legislation, including new requirements in Washington and Minnesota. Washington’s amended Public Records Act mandates voice alteration in audio-recorded workplace investigations to preserve tone and inflection while rendering voices unrecognizable without consent, except for certain public officials. Similarly, Minnesota’s body-worn camera statute defines redaction as obscuring identities in recordings through video blurring or audio distortion. Veritone’s technology directly supports organizations in meeting these evolving legal standards.
Dustin Schulte, Administrative Assistant 2 of the Eastern Washington University Police Department, commented that the new voice masking capabilities in Veritone Redact are invaluable for their organization, providing flexibility to safeguard sensitive information while pursuing public safety outcomes. He emphasized the importance of anonymizing voices while preserving natural tone and clarity to meet privacy and compliance requirements and protect confidential identities.
Additionally, the inverse blur functionality allows users to redact an entire scene while specifically highlighting one or more persons or objects of interest. This feature is designed to save time and enhance precision in managed services and operational workflows by allowing users to apply a seamless redaction effect to isolate key subjects while maintaining compliance with privacy laws.
To bridge language barriers, Veritone Redact now offers transcription support in 64 languages. This enables users to transcribe and redact audio and video files directly in their native language, reinforcing Veritone’s mission to deliver AI solutions and operational efficiency to the public sector.
Veritone is scheduled to participate in the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) conference from October 18 to 21 in Denver. At booth 1505 at the Colorado Convention Center, the company will demonstrate its AI solutions for public safety agencies, which aim to accelerate investigations, increase crime solve rates, and enhance public trust, transparency, and operational efficiency. Demonstrations will include Veritone Redact and its Intelligent Digital Evidence Management System (iDEMS). Veritone builds human-centered enterprise AI solutions, serving customers in media, entertainment, public sector, and talent acquisition industries. Its aiWARE™ platform orchestrates machine learning models to transform data sources into actionable intelligence.
