Swift has announced the appointment of Thomas Delaet, formerly a partner at McKinsey Digital, as its new Chief Product Officer, effective September 5, 2025, with previous CPO Jerome Piens transitioning to Chief Operations Officer.
Thomas Delaet’s appointment comes as Swift continues to support the financial industry’s transition to a new ecosystem, with a critical focus on the migration to the ISO 20022 messaging standard. Javier Pérez-Tasso, CEO of Swift, described Delaet as “a strong addition to Swift as we continue to support the industry’s transition to the new financial ecosystem.” Financial institutions such as CIMB Bank, Standard Bank, and the Central Bank of Kenya have been preparing for this shift.
Prior to joining Swift, Delaet spent over 14 years as a partner at McKinsey and Company’s McKinsey Digital division. His work there concentrated on core technology modernizations, and he led the Cloud Services business. Earlier in his career, he held various research roles during a nearly decade-long tenure at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium.
Jerome Piens, who had served as Swift’s CPO since March 2023 and worked at the organization for over two decades, will now assume the role of Chief Operations Officer.
Swift is also actively involved in other key industry projects. The firm is currently developing a new Directory Service for the European Payments Council’s Verification of Payee scheme, which is slated for a go-live on 5 October. Additionally, Swift contributes to a similar project in Australia, supporting the national New Payments Platform.
