Planet DDS Unveils RCM Zero to Transform Dental Revenue Cycle Management Through AI and Automation

Planet DDS has launched RCM Zero, an enterprise revenue cycle management (RCM) initiative designed to address significant financial challenges faced by dental organizations by automating and centralizing RCM processes and moving towards real-time pre-adjudication.

The RCM Zero framework aims to help Dental Support Organizations (DSOs) recover lost revenue, improve collections, and gain enterprise-wide visibility across multiple locations. The name reflects its core objectives: eliminating manual paper or portal-based processes, preventing denials through AI-powered clean claims, and removing wasted staff hours via automation.

DSOs currently face considerable financial pressure due to inefficient RCM processes. Industry estimates suggest inaccurate insurance verification can cost DSOs up to 2.9% of production, equating to $29,000 per $1 million, with additional losses incurred from manually chasing unpaid claims. Furthermore, DSOs may allocate between 0.6% to 8% of their revenue to RCM headcount alone. These inefficiencies collectively lead to increased write-offs, higher denial rates, a lack of insight into multi-site cash flow, and ultimately, millions of dollars in lost annual revenue, unpredictable cash flow, and staff burnout.

RCM Zero integrates automation, artificial intelligence, and enterprise dashboards within Planet DDS’s Denticon and Cloud 9 platforms. It leverages partnerships with companies such as AirPay, DentalXChange, Sunbit, and Zentist to automate eligibility checks, facilitate auto-posting across 835s and transformed EOBs, and provide enterprise clearinghouse integration with advanced analytics. The framework addresses every stage of the revenue cycle:

1. **Verify Eligibility & Estimates:** Automated eligibility writeback and a new estimation engine are implemented to prevent errors before patient treatment.
2. **Enable Treatment Plan Payments:** Provides real-time out-of-pocket cost clarity for patients, facilitating upfront payments and reducing unexpected bills.
3. **Automate Claims & Credentialing:** Utilizes AI scrubbing, auto-attachments, and centralized provider credentialing to ensure cleaner claims and faster provider onboarding.
4. **Accelerate Payment Posting & Denial Management:** Features automated 835/EOB posting, denial code mapping, and AI-driven workflows to minimize rework and expedite reconciliation.
5. **Gain Enterprise Visibility & Achieve Pre-Adjudication:** The RCM Hub offers real-time roll-up reporting for DSOs, with ongoing development to condense the entire cycle into a single pre-adjudicated transaction.

Nathan James, SVP of Product at Planet DDS, commented on the system’s transformative impact: “Today, staff spend 20 minutes chasing eligibility, weeks waiting on denials, and months reconciling payments. With RCM Zero, eligibility is instant, estimates are ready before treatment, patients pay with confidence, claims are clean, and payments post automatically. Leaders get real-time dashboards instead of spreadsheets. This is how DSOs scale without burning out their teams.”

Meghan Hernandez, VP of Revenue Cycle Management for Salt Dental Partners, highlighted the practical benefits for large organizations. “At Salt Dental Partners, our priority is supporting practices so they can focus on exceptional care. Across more than 150 locations, revenue cycle plays a bigger role in that than many realize. Making the entire cycle smoother means happier teams and a better experience for providers and patients,” Hernandez stated. “Having worked in revenue cycle for 20 years, I know the difference this can make, and I’m excited to see Planet DDS leading with its vision for RCM.”

Eric Giesecke, CEO of Planet DDS, emphasized the broader economic shift. “Dental organizations have accepted inefficiency as the cost of doing business,” Giesecke said. “With RCM Zero, we’re proving it doesn’t have to be that way. By eliminating revenue leakage and automating manual tasks, DSOs can access the revenue they’ve already earned faster and build predictability into growth.”

Planet DDS aims to provide DSOs with enhanced financial clarity and control. By addressing each stage of the revenue cycle, integrating automation, and setting the foundation for real-time adjudication, the company seeks to enable DSOs to reduce revenue leakage, strengthen collections, and achieve predictable cash flow, which supports EBITDA growth.
