NCR Atleos Corporation (Atleos), a leader in self-service financial access, has announced an advanced dual-sided ATM concept that utilizes artificial intelligence in its design to enhance form factor, sustainability, and operational efficiency.
The new design aims to optimize the ATM’s footprint, reduce complexity, and improve its environmental impact. Key features of the concept include two functional ATM screens positioned on opposite sides, enabling simultaneous customer transactions. This approach also integrates shared safes and a PC core, which is designed to reduce the overall cost, weight, and complexity compared to previous dual-sided ATM designs.
AI played a role in creating the ATM’s form factor and lattice-style cladding, contributing to structural strength, durability, and customizable aesthetics, including light-emitted color options on the device’s exterior. Additionally, the concept incorporates 3D-printed components, which contribute to reduced weight, minimized manufacturing waste, and faster prototyping capabilities.
Sean Mallean, head of global innovation at Atleos, stated, “This is an energizing evolution. We have reimagined the dual-sided ATM with the support of AI to deliver a smaller footprint, shared componentry and sustainable materials—creating a concept that aligns with modern banking needs.”Atleos emphasized that its application of AI is focused on design evolution rather than embedding AI into the ATM’s software stacks, thereby maintaining existing security and compliance standards. The dual-sided ATM currently remains in a proof-of-concept phase and is not on the company’s immediate research and development roadmap for commercialization.
Atleos, headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., specializes in expanding self-service financial access through its ATM expertise and operational scale, including the largest independently-owned ATM network.
