Abnormal AI, a provider of AI-native human behavior security, has received GovRAMP authorization at a moderate impact level. This authorization, previously known as StateRAMP, enables state, local, and education (SLED) organizations to more easily access AI-powered protection against advanced email threats. This development builds on Abnormal AI’s existing security and compliance efforts within the public sector.
Zach Oxman, AVP of SLED at Abnormal AI, stated that the GovRAMP authorization reinforces the company’s commitment to safeguarding state and local government agencies and educational institutions. He noted that public sector organizations are increasingly targeted with email-based attacks due to the sensitive data they manage and the essential services they provide. Oxman emphasized the necessity for modern, behavioral-based security technology to counter adversaries leveraging AI for sophisticated attacks.
The University of Texas at Austin sponsored this authorization, allowing Abnormal AI to expand its AI-native email protection to public sector entities. The platform is designed to defend against threats such as advanced phishing, business email compromise, vendor fraud, and account takeover attacks, which are becoming more sophisticated with cybercriminals’ use of AI.
Cam Beasley, CISO at the University of Texas at Austin, highlighted the university’s reliance on partners like Abnormal AI to protect students, faculty, and critical research data. Beasley added that sponsoring Abnormal AI’s GovRAMP authorization demonstrates the university’s dedication to modernizing security in higher education and making advanced, AI-driven protections available nationwide to other public institutions.
This GovRAMP authorization follows Abnormal AI’s earlier achievement of FedRAMP Moderate Authorization within 256 days, demonstrating its expanding presence in the public sector. The company also recently obtained ISO 42001 certification for responsible AI. Abnormal AI’s platform leverages machine learning to detect and block sophisticated inbound attacks and compromised accounts across email and connected applications. It uses an anomaly detection engine to analyze contextual signals and assess the risk of every cloud email event, targeting socially-engineered attacks. The platform integrates via API with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace and offers additional protection for applications including Slack, Workday, ServiceNow, and Zoom. Abnormal AI is currently utilized by over 3,200 organizations, including 25% of the Fortune 500.
