Former Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chairman J. Christopher Giancarlo has joined Patomak Global Partners, LLC as a senior strategic advisor, operating from the firm’s New York office. Mr. Giancarlo is widely recognized for his foundational work in the digital asset space.
Richard C. Breeden, chairman of Patomak, stated that Mr. Giancarlo will enhance the firm’s ability to provide strategic insights to clients navigating the complex intersection of digital asset innovation and evolving federal and international oversight. Breeden noted that Giancarlo’s deep understanding of market mechanics, combined with the skills of the existing team, aims to deliver advice that helps clients remain agile in seeking opportunities while adapting to the evolving regulatory environment.
Mr. Giancarlo served as the 13th CFTC chairman from 2017 to 2019, following his appointment as a CFTC commissioner in 2014. During his chairmanship, he oversaw the launch of the first regulated market for Bitcoin derivatives. His tenure also included service on the Financial Stability Oversight Council, the President’s Working Group on Financial Markets, and the Executive Board of the International Organization of Securities Commissions.
Prior to his government service, Mr. Giancarlo spent 13 years as an executive vice president at GFI Group, where he directed the firm’s 2005 initial public offering. He is a co-founder and chairman of the Digital Dollar Project and currently serves as a director for Nomura Holdings, Digital Asset Holdings LLC, and Paxos Trust Company.
Mr. Giancarlo remarked that Patomak has earned a reputation for providing advice that reflects a sophisticated understanding of how Washington’s regulatory apparatus functions in practice. Mr. Giancarlo is the author of “CryptoDad: The Fight for the Future of Money.” His forthcoming book, “The New Adventures of CryptoDad: The Quest for Financial Freedom in the 21st Century,” is scheduled for publication by Wiley in October 2026. He received his J.
