Zego Renews Partnership with Clearspeed to Enhance Motor Claims Management and Combat Fraud

Insurtech company Zego has renewed its collaboration with Clearspeed, a global provider of voice-based risk assessment, to further develop its claims management process with expanded applications in motor insurance. The extended partnership aims to enhance fraud detection and streamline operational efficiency for Zego’s growing customer base. This collaboration has already demonstrated a tenfold increase in claim abandonments indicating suspicious activity, an average fraud saving of £550 per claim, and the successful identification and disruption of organized fraud ring activity.

Founded in 2016, Zego specializes in motor insurance, initially focusing on commercial coverage before expanding into the consumer market. The company, which reported a 60% uplift in UK growth in June 2025 for private car insurance, utilizes app-based telematics and behavioral insights to offer flexible, data-driven policies. Zego aims to provide transparent, cost-effective insurance that rewards safer driving behaviors.

Clearspeed, also founded in 2016 and headquartered in San Diego, is recognized for its proprietary voice-based risk assessment technology. This technology enables Zego to efficiently triage motor claims by quickly identifying low-risk cases for fast-tracking, while routing higher-risk claims to investigators for further examination. This process is designed to mitigate fraud exposure and ensure equitable and prompt outcomes for policyholders.

Ian Kershaw, VP of customer service, claims, and fraud at Zego, commented on the renewal: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Clearspeed. This allows us to fast-track low-risk claims, reduce payment times for our customers, and concentrate our adjusters’ efforts on cases that require more attention. We are improving internal efficiency and delivering a better customer experience, while effectively mitigating fraud, which enables us to maintain competitive pricing.”

Clearspeed’s solution is integrated into Zego’s motor claims workflow. When a customer files a claim, they respond to a series of automated yes or no questions. Clearspeed’s technology then analyzes vocal characteristics to determine risk levels, allowing Zego to prioritize claims accordingly. Low-risk claims proceed rapidly, while those deemed higher-risk or potentially fraudulent are flagged for review. This system has reduced manual checks and administrative tasks, enhancing Zego’s capacity to support its diverse customer base.

Manjit Rana, EVP of insurance at Clearspeed, stated: “Zego has established a reputation for innovation and customer focus, and we are proud to support their efforts in setting a new standard for insurance in the UK market. This renewal signifies a commitment to working together more intelligently. By combining our technologies, we are achieving operational efficiency, reducing fraud, and helping customers return to the road sooner. It demonstrates how insurance innovation can benefit both insurers and the insured.”

Clearspeed’s voice analytics technology has shown measurable value across the industry, with clients reporting an average 30X return on investment, a 40% increase in immediate settlements, a 50% reduction in claims handling time, and a 36% increase in preventative fraud savings, alongside consistent high customer experience scores. Clearspeed, initially developed for the U.

S. Department of Defense, is utilized in 37 countries and supports over 60 languages.

Zego holds the distinction of being the first UK insurtech to obtain an insurance license. The company has issued millions of policies and has received industry accolades, including Best Insurance Employer at the British Insurance Awards 2025, Claims Initiative of the Year at the National Insurance Awards 2025, and the Corporate Contribution to Inclusion award at the Women in Insurance Awards 2025 for the Gibraltar market.
