Xsolla, a global video game commerce company, has expanded its payment solutions in Portugal through the integration of MB Way, a prominent local mobile wallet. This initiative is designed to enhance payment accessibility and player experience for game developers operating within the Portuguese market.

Portugal is recognized for its digital transformation, with nearly 90% of its population online, high smartphone usage, and strong adoption of mobile banking. MB Way, a leading mobile wallet in the country, connects to 11 million cards and is supported by 28 banks. It is trusted by 6 million people and processed 496 million transactions in 2024, achieving 95% market coverage. MB Way holds an estimated market share of 34%-45% of all local e-commerce transactions.

The integration of MB Way into Xsolla’s payment portfolio offers several benefits. It increases market reach for developers by connecting them to millions of consumers who prefer mobile payments over cards. Higher conversion rates are anticipated as players can complete purchases quickly through their phones, reducing friction at checkout. The service provides local, instant, and secure transactions, processing payments in real time in the player’s own language and currency, while offering developers fraud-resistant transactions. As a mobile-first solution, MB Way facilitates smooth and intuitive in-app purchases. This improved localized payment experience is expected to foster loyalty, encourage repeat purchases, and contribute to sustained revenue growth.

Chris Hewish, President of Xsolla, stated, “Bringing a new payment method to Portugal isn’t just about ticking a box; it’s about recognizing the local preferences. When players feel the payment flow is native to them, adoption accelerates and retention strengthens.”

Xsolla, headquartered in Los Angeles, California, helps developers launch, grow, and monetize their games globally by connecting them to local payment methods. The company acts as a merchant of record and has supported over 1,500 game developers worldwide.
