Wolters Kluwer Tax and Accounting has introduced Expert AI capabilities into its TaxWise® Online platform, aiming to equip tax preparers and Electronic Return Originators (EROs) with advanced tools for faster, more accurate work and expanded growth opportunities.
These enhancements leverage intelligent automation and connected workflows to transform the tax preparation process. Rocco Impreveduto, Vice President & Segment Leader at Wolters Kluwer Tax and Accounting, stated, “TaxWise is entering a transformative chapter, equipping tax preparers with smarter tools and seamless workflows. With AI-powered document extraction, CCH AnswerConnect guidance, and referral tools designed for organic growth, tax preparers can lay the groundwork for growth in a more automated tax preparation landscape.”
At the core of TaxWise Online’s new features is Wolters Kluwer® Expert AI, a proprietary layer of generative and agentic artificial intelligence. This integration enhances how tax preparers operate, make decisions, and deliver value by providing smarter automation for document classification and data entry, alongside AI-powered insights and recommendations. The automation of routine tasks is designed to reduce manual effort and errors, thereby freeing up time for strategic advisory work and deeper client engagement.
Key new features in TaxWise Online include Automated Tax Document Extraction, which allows users to upload supported W2s and 1099s and autofill forms with AI precision directly from TaxWise Mobile. AI-Powered ID Scanning instantly captures data from various identification documents, minimizing manual keying and typos. Users can also access authoritative tax guidance through CCH® AnswerConnect In-App Search, with AI-assisted support available as needed. A Visual Line Guide helps preparers maintain orientation and accuracy throughout the return process.
For business growth, Tax Preparers can now generate ERO-specific referral links, set discounts, and track returns driven by word of mouth. The platform also offers a Simplified Taxpayer Experience through a streamlined mobile interview and secure document exchange, consolidating intake and collaboration in one organized place.
The integration of AI assistance is projected to significantly compress common 1040 tasks. For instance, collecting taxpayer information, typically taking 30–60 minutes, can be reduced to roughly 5-15 minutes. Data entry and mapping, which often requires another 30–60 minutes, can now be completed automatically in under a minute. Additionally, common tax questions that previously consumed an hour or two can now be resolved in approximately 5-30 minutes with AI research. Applied across 200 clients, firms could reclaim an estimated 8-16 hours per week, equivalent to 1-2 full workdays.
General availability of these new capabilities has commenced its rollout and will be showcased at the GetWise 2025 Annual Conference. This event is scheduled to be held across six major U.
S. cities in November and December.
