Viamericas has partnered with Nueva Elektra del Milenio (Elektra) and Banco Azteca to implement a new QR code payment feature, designed to enhance the speed, security, and convenience of receiving international remittances.

The new feature enables senders to share a QR code from their transaction receipt directly with beneficiaries. Recipients can then present this code at any Elektra and Banco Azteca location for immediate scanning and payout of funds. This process aims to minimize errors, reduce wait times, and decrease transaction cancellations that can arise from incorrect folio number entries, thereby improving the customer experience for families receiving funds.

Salo Eduardo Levy Witzman, Director Remesas / Negocios De Comision Baz at Elektra, stated that the partnership with Viamericas’ network allows for easier cross-country payments, aiming to make fast and accurate transactions more accessible in México and the United States. Joseph Argilagos, Executive Chairman and Co-Founder of Viamericas, emphasized the company’s goal of secure and convenient money transfers, noting that QR codes reduce errors and provide recipients with easier access to payments. He also expressed anticipation for continued payment innovation with Elektra and Banco Azteca.

Elektra provides money transfer services through approximately 3,700 point-of-contact locations across Mexico, including third-party locations such as Tiendas Neto. The company has over 30 years of experience in international money transfers and is recognized as the largest remittance payor in Mexico. Elektra is part of Grupo Elektra, a financial services company and specialty retailer operating over 6,000 points of contact across México, the United States, Guatemala, Honduras, and Panama.

Viamericas is a licensed money transmitter offering international money transfers, bill payments, check processing, and top-up services at thousands of agent locations in the United States. It facilitates money transfers to over 285,000 locations in 95 countries. Established in 1999 and headquartered in Coral Gables, Florida, Viamericas also maintains a West Coast office in Los Angeles and operational centers in Mexico, Colombia, and the Philippines.
