Unit21, a provider of AI Risk Infrastructure for fraud prevention and AML monitoring, has announced a significant company relaunch, positioning itself as a leader in agentic AI for financial crime operations. The company, initially recognized for its no-code tools, has unveiled a new brand, website, and a rebuilt platform designed around AI Agents that automate detection and investigation workflows.
Financial crime presents a substantial global challenge, with estimates by the United Nations indicating that $800 billion to $2 trillion is laundered worldwide each year. In the United States, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) receives over 4 million Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) annually, creating a significant burden on compliance teams responsible for reviewing alerts and preparing regulatory filings.
Unit21 was founded seven years ago on the premise that risk and compliance teams should not require engineering resources to build fraud and AML rules. The company secured $92 million in funding from investors including Tiger Global, Google’s Gradient Ventures, and ICONIQ, and achieved product-market fit with institutions such as Intuit, Chime, and Green Dot. However, as financial crime volumes and sophistication escalated, Unit21 determined that no-code tooling alone was no longer sufficient. Beginning in 2025, the company rebuilt its platform to incorporate agentic AI.
Tyler Allen, COO of Unit21, stated, “Every compliance team I talk to has the same problem: more alerts than their analysts can work, and the gap is widening. We built AI agents that execute the investigation, not just assist it, and over 100 customers have deployed them in production. When agents handle the volume, your team prevents more financial crime and your business scales without scaling headcount.”
The relaunch centers on Unit21’s AI Agents, first introduced in May 2025. These agents are distinct from copilot tools that merely assist analysts or standalone AI products that summarize alerts. Unit21’s agents execute the entire investigation workflow, including ingesting alerts, retrieving transaction histories, checking sanctions lists, reviewing adverse media, assembling evidence, drafting regulator-ready narratives in customer-specific formats, and logging every step for audit purposes. The agents are configured to align with each institution’s standard operating procedures, escalation thresholds, and risk appetite.
Unit21’s AI also develops new detection logic. AI rule recommendations analyze patterns across alert dispositions and propose optimized rules. Every disposition, escalation, and confirmed outcome feeds back into the agents, enhancing system performance over time. The platform currently processes over 500,000 alerts per month across its network.
Customers utilizing Unit21’s AI Agent have reported significant improvements, including up to 93% fewer false positives and up to 80% faster investigation handle times. For instance, Underdog reduced its alert volume by 72% using Unit21’s AI Agent, while Nexo decreased false positives by 57% and aims for an 80% reduction. Existing customer partnerships are expanding at twice the previous rate.
Trisha Kothari, CEO and Co-Founder of Unit21, commented, “For years, the industry asked the wrong question: ‘Do you have AI?’ The real question is whether the AI actually does the work. When AI moves beyond assisting analysts and starts performing the investigation itself—gathering context, executing the workflow, producing a defensible output—it stops being a feature and becomes the operating model. That shift is what we’ve built, and what we’re seeing in production across our customers today.”
Unit21 asserts that many AI claims in the financial crime market are superficial. Building a system that reliably executes investigations in production while maintaining governance, auditability, and regulatory defensibility requires extensive platform infrastructure development. Unit21’s agents operate within the system where detection and investigation functions reside, ensuring repeatable, measurable, and audit-ready outcomes. Every AI decision is traceable, mapped to customer policies, and supported by documented risk reasoning and evidence.
The new Unit21 platform is available now. The company serves over 200 institutions, including Intuit, Chime, Green Dot, and Sallie Mae, aiming to empower financial institutions, fintechs, and crypto companies to operate proactively and address genuine risks by automating repetitive tasks while maintaining full auditability.
