PitchBook has expanded its Collateralized Loan Obligation (CLO) data, now offering a full history of over 7,000 active and inactive CLO funds across the US and Europe to provide a more comprehensive view for financial professionals.

This enhanced dataset covers CLO Fund Holdings, Trade History, and Lender Participation, linking CLO fund activity to detailed insights on underlying debt, borrowers, and issuers. The expansion aims to empower CLO fund managers and leveraged finance professionals to better analyze performance, strategy, and structure over time, supporting more informed decisions regarding portfolio allocations, industry exposure, risk appetite, and benchmarking.

CLOs are a significant component of leveraged finance markets, accounting for 60 to 70 percent of the demand for newly issued leveraged loans in the United States. Their role in maintaining liquidity and distributing risk makes their influence on market behavior increasingly significant.

Stephen Burger, Director of Product Management for Credit at PitchBook, noted the rapid growth of the CLO market, with 2025 issuance projected to surpass $200 billion. He stated that clients increasingly require a comprehensive, connected view of the entire ecosystem as the market expands in scale and complexity. This latest data expansion is designed to meet that need, delivering historical data to support informed decision-making at every stage of the credit investment lifecycle, from issuance to trading and portfolio management.

The expanded dataset includes key areas such as CLO Holdings, which allows for analysis by industry, asset type, and investment type for targeted portfolio insights. CLO Trade Data tracks buying and selling activity over time with advanced filtering options including trade reason, date, instrument type, trade type, and asset type. Lender Positioning Over Time provides historical visibility into lender activity, including hold duration, relative market share, and changes in principal balances. A Comprehensive CLO Fund History offers a robust database of over 7,000 active and inactive CLO funds, encompassing newly issued, refinanced, and reset vehicles.

This expansion builds on PitchBook’s existing credit data, which includes over 65,000 private credit deals, with more than 20,000 transactions added in the past six months, establishing it as an extensive private credit deal database in the market.
