Nedbank, one of Africa’s largest financial services groups, has announced the appointment of Nikos Angelopoulos as its new group chief information officer (CIO), effective September 1, 2026. He brings over 30 years of experience to the role.

Angelopoulos began his career at Accenture in 1993, moving to Vodafone Italy in 2008. By 2012, he was serving as regional CIO, overseeing operations across Italy, Greece, Romania, Albania, and Malta. Following a period at telecom and tech provider Du, Angelopoulos joined mobile network operator MTN in 2018 as group CIO, where he managed technology strategy, investment, and governance across 16 markets.

Nedbank stated in a LinkedIn post announcing the appointment that Angelopoulos will be instrumental in advancing the bank’s technology objectives. He succeeds Ray Naicker, who served as group CIO from July 2023 to January 2026, as part of his 15-year tenure with the bank. Naicker transitioned to BSP Financial as group CIO in July.

With roots tracing back to 1888, Nedbank operates as a prominent financial services group on the African continent, managing approximately ZAR 501 billion in assets as of December 2025.
