Melio, a prominent platform for accounts payable and receivable, has launched “Agent Mel,” an AI-powered assistant designed to provide accountants, bookkeepers, and small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) with immediate responses and insights on payments, products, and vendor management. This initiative addresses the increasing demand for intelligent, automated financial assistance within the B2B sector, where 40% of enterprise applications are projected to integrate task-specific AI agents by the end of 2026.

Agent Mel is fully embedded within Melio’s workflow and requires no prior setup. It offers a chat-based interface that allows users to ask questions such as, “What’s the status of this bill?” or “How do I set up a vendor?” The assistant also supports cash flow management by highlighting overdue payments and displaying payment patterns and vendor history, enabling users to make decisions more efficiently.

Matan Bar, CEO of Melio, stated, “Agent Mel gives accountants and small businesses swift access to the data they need, eliminating hours of manual searching and empowering them to make smarter decisions faster. It’s another step toward our mission of simplifying payments and freeing businesses to focus on what really matters.”

Common questions that finance teams and accountants are reportedly asking Agent Mel include inquiries about the status of recent vendor payments, the number of payments in progress for specific clients, outstanding balances, payment approval policy setup, clarification of platform settings, and identification of top vendors from the previous year.

The introduction of Agent Mel expands upon Melio’s existing AI functionalities, which include automatic bill capture and data entry, underscoring the company’s focus on delivering intuitive payment solutions that improve visibility, control, and operational efficiency. Founded in 2018, Melio, a Xero company, offers accounts payable, receivable, and cash flow management solutions to U.

S. SMBs and accounting firms, currently serving nearly 100,000 businesses. The platform integrates with financial institutions, facilitating payment data synchronization and reducing manual entry. Melio also operates as a technology service provider for vertical SaaS platforms and financial institutions, including Capital One and Shopify, and collaborates with distribution partners like Fiserv through a syndication model. This approach aims to extend embedded accounts payable and receivable products to a broader base of small businesses, while Melio continues to operate as a standalone platform leveraging Xero’s global reach.
