LucyRx, an independent pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), has announced the introduction of the LucyRx Women’s Health Benefit, scheduled to launch on January 1, 2026, offering an expanded menopause formulary, AI-powered analytics, and dedicated women’s health support to address medication coverage and care for perimenopause and menopause.

LucyRx designed the life-stage program to close gaps in medication coverage, education, and proactive care for women. Susan Thomas, RN, chief commercial officer at LucyRx, stated, “Women deserve ready access to education and pharmaceutical options to treat their symptoms and improve their long-term wellness, and employers feel the impact when that does not happen.” She added, “Too often, formularies carve out the therapies women need most. Our goal is to remove those barriers and give employers a clear way to support women’s health.”

Menopause care is recognized as a workplace and cost issue that impacts employee retention, productivity, and total health expenditures. Data from the U.

S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that women constitute nearly half of the U.

S. civilian labor force. A Mayo Clinic study of close to 5,000 women aged 45–60 found that 34 percent reported moderate to very severe menopause symptoms, yet only approximately one in four were receiving any treatment. Untreated symptoms can lead to missed work, reduced productivity, and increased health costs for employers. A Boston Consulting Group analysis estimated that menopause-related symptoms result in tens of billions of dollars annually for U.

The LucyRx Women’s Health Benefit provides a broader selection of pharmaceutical options, including hormone replacement and related therapies often excluded from standard formularies. The benefit aims to simplify prescription care navigation and support symptom management, hormonal imbalance, and associated conditions. It offers employers a comprehensive approach to women’s health support, integrating clinical oversight and affordability. The program also includes one-to-one support from LucyRx Care Guides—comprising nurses, pharmacists, and certified pharmacy technicians—who assist members with understanding complex therapies, navigating affordability programs (such as manufacturer assistance and alternative payer options), and maintaining adherence. Care Guides receive specialized training in perimenopause and menopause care and engage with prescribers to highlight evidence-based formulary options.

LucyIQ, LucyRx’s AI-powered analytics platform, converts claims data into actionable insights for employers to optimize benefits design, safeguard employees, and control expenditures. For the Women’s Health Benefit, LucyIQ assists in identifying midlife women potentially at higher risk for cardiovascular and metabolic complications linked to menopause. It achieves this by analyzing diagnosis codes, medication patterns, and, when available, biometric and clinical data such including weight, cholesterol, blood pressure, and glucose. Care Guides utilize these insights for private, tailored outreach, which includes medication reviews, affordability options, prescriber coordination, nutrition resources, and adherence programs. For employers, LucyIQ monitors utilization and adherence trends to mitigate waste, manage high-cost drugs, and promote appropriate usage. It connects benefit design decisions to outcomes and total spend, demonstrating the Women’s Health Benefit’s impact on adherence, symptom-related indicators, and cost trends over time. A similar LucyRx wellness-focused program, leveraging LucyIQ, tracked an estimated $3.2 million in multi-year savings for an employer health plan due to its integrated formulary and patient support model.

David Blair, chief executive officer at LucyRx, stated, “Our clients have been asking for a simpler way to support women’s health that actually fits into their existing plan. This benefit lets them expand evidence-based coverage, support midlife women, and see the impact on cost and outcomes in one place.”

LucyRx plans to implement the new coverage and resources for its own employees initially, reflecting the company’s stated commitment to managing client and member funds with the same approach as its own.
