ISG Initiates Global Research Study on Digital Sustainability Service Providers

Share It:

Information Services Group (ISG), a global AI-centered technology research and advisory firm, has initiated a comprehensive research study to evaluate providers of digital sustainability services and solutions.

This study aims to assist organizations in developing more resilient and sustainable value chains by leveraging digital capabilities. Digital sustainability providers offer specialized expertise, enabling companies to integrate sustainability into their core strategies and achieve ESG objectives across their value chains. The findings from this research will be published as part of the ISG Provider Lens® series, titled “Digital Sustainability,” with reports scheduled for release in January 2026. These reports will cover various aspects of digital sustainability offerings, including strategy and enablement, operational technology (OT) and industry-specific solutions, IT solutions and services, data advisory and integration, and data platforms and managed services. Enterprises can utilize these reports to assess existing vendor relationships, identify potential new engagements, and evaluate available offerings, while ISG advisors will use the information to recommend providers to clients.

Sustainability has transitioned from an optional objective to a fundamental element of business strategy, driven by increasing regulatory pressures and stakeholder expectations. Organizations are working to balance business performance with responsible management of products and ethical practices, increasing investments in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives. This involves deploying advanced technologies and updated operating models to manage associated risks and opportunities.

“Digital sustainability providers offer the expertise enterprises need to reach better sustainability outcomes,” stated Iain Fisher, director at ISG. “They empower companies to embed sustainability into their strategies, strengthen digital capabilities and support their ESG objectives across every stage of the value chain.”

ISG has distributed surveys to approximately 100 digital sustainability providers for this study. In collaboration with ISG’s global advisors, the research team will develop five quadrants that represent the common digital sustainability solutions and services sought by enterprises, based on ISG’s client engagement experience. These quadrants are:

* **Strategy and Enablement Services:** This segment evaluates providers of strategic advisory services that help organizations achieve sustainability goals by aligning technology with business strategy. Providers are assessed on their capacity to guide clients through regulatory compliance and assist in meeting decarbonization and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) targets.
* **OT and Industry-Specific Solutions and Services:** This assesses providers of OT solutions and industry-specific services designed to enhance sustainable operations unique to each sector. Evaluations consider their use of technologies such as IoT, AI, digital twins, blockchain, and robotics, as well as their consulting and managed services.
* **IT Solutions and Services:** This covers providers of sustainability solutions and services that improve clients’ foundational IT capabilities, including IT outsourcing services with integrated sustainability commitments.
* **Data Advisory and Integration Services:** This evaluates providers of strategic advisory and engineering services focused on transforming ESG data management and operating models. These services encompass building scalable, automated data systems for regulatory compliance, risk management, and business intelligence.
* **Data Platforms and Managed Services:** This segment covers providers of platforms and services that enable continuous monitoring of ESG data across organizational value chains. Providers are evaluated on their ability to manage, utilize, and audit ESG data for sustainability goals, compliance, and reporting.

The study will produce geographically focused reports covering the global digital sustainability market, specifically evaluating offerings available globally, in the U.S., and in Europe. ISG analyst Matt Warburton will author these reports for the U.S., Europe, and Global regions.
