Blue J and IBFD Partner to Launch AI-Powered International Tax Research Platform

Blue J, a generative AI tax research platform, and IBFD, a global authority on cross-border taxation, have formed a strategic partnership to deliver instant, AI-powered international tax research across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

The collaboration addresses the increasing complexity of international tax, driven by initiatives such as OECD BEPS 2.0, Pillar Two, and new digital economy rules. By embedding IBFD’s content, which covers over 220 jurisdictions, into Blue J’s conversational AI platform, tax practitioners will be able to quickly evaluate permanent establishment (PE) risk when entering new markets, assess compliance with global minimum tax rules, and compare transfer pricing across various jurisdictions.

The integrated platform is designed to process natural language queries, providing answers within seconds. These responses will include authoritative citations to relevant treaties, case law, and regulatory guidance, enhancing the speed and reliability of cross-border tax research.

Benjamin Alarie, CEO and co-founder of Blue J, emphasized the need for real-time clarity and confidence in an environment of accelerating international tax complexity. “Integrating IBFD’s global content directly into Blue J’s GenAI platform puts authoritative international tax answers at professionals’ fingertips, transforming what once took hours of research into seconds,” Alarie stated, also noting this is the first of several planned content partnerships.

The new AI-driven capabilities are scheduled for a beta launch for select users in late 2025, with general availability across the US, Canada, and UK anticipated in the first quarter of 2026. Once operational, the integration aims to enable tax teams to advise multinational clients confidently, streamline compliance workflows, and improve strategic planning through a single interface.

Jan Maarten Slagter, CEO of IBFD, described the partnership as a significant milestone for international tax. “Activating IBFD’s expertise through Blue J’s proven AI platform represents a significant milestone for international tax, aligning with our mission of sharing tax knowledge across the world,” Slagter said, adding that it will empower the next generation of tax leaders. IBFD, founded in 1938 and headquartered in Amsterdam, has an 87-year history in cross-border taxation, serving Fortune 500 companies, governments, and tax advisors globally.

Vicki Heard, Group Head of Tax and Legal Services at KPMG UK and Switzerland, highlighted the growing importance of AI in tax advisory work. Heard noted that Blue J’s platform would allow KPMG teams to “instantly access reliable answers on complex matters, complete with citations from the sources to back them up and links to IBFD’s Tax Research Platform,” enabling faster, more confident client advice.

The impact of generative AI on the tax profession will be explored during a 90-minute panel discussion at IBFD’s Dialogue sessions during IFA 2025 on October 6, 2025. The session will feature Benjamin Alarie and Tjerk de Greef, IBFD’s Director of Tech & Data.

This partnership follows Blue J’s $122 million Series D funding round in August, led by Oak HC/FT and Sapphire Ventures. The company, founded in 2015, has reported a doubling of both revenue and customer count in the first half of 2025, reflecting increased demand for AI-powered tax solutions among its more than 2,800 organizational clients, including Big Four firms and Fortune 100 companies.
