Bank of America announced on August 4, 2026, its agreement to acquire MDSec Consulting, a UK-based cybersecurity consulting firm. The transaction, for an undisclosed amount, is a strategic move to enhance the bank’s internal security capabilities.
MDSec Consulting, established in 2011 and headquartered in Macclesfield, specialises in a range of technical information security services. These include adversary simulation, penetration testing, application security assessments, red team operations, incident response, and security training, catering to both enterprise and consumer technology environments.
Bank of America stated that this acquisition is intended to build out its cybersecurity capabilities both globally and specifically within the UK market. The bank maintains an established presence in the UK, with over 1,400 employees located in Chester.
The acquisition is expected to conclude in Q4 2026, pending necessary regulatory approvals. Upon completion, the entire MDSec team, comprising approximately 65 professionals, will be integrated into Bank of America. This increase in headcount aligns with Bank of America’s broader talent expansion strategy, which recently saw the announcement of eight new managing directors and one vice chair within its US investment banking division.
