ABN Amro, a Dutch banking institution, has partnered with Paris-based Mistral AI to develop custom artificial intelligence solutions. This collaboration aims to provide ABN Amro with access to AI capabilities that are developed and governed within Europe, seeking to reduce its reliance on non-European technology providers.

Through this partnership, ABN Amro intends to create high-impact AI applications designed to meet the bank’s requirements for security, transparency, privacy, and regulatory compliance. The solutions will also be aligned with European values.

This agreement further expands Mistral AI’s footprint within European financial institutions. Over the past year, the French AI company has established or extended multi-year partnerships with HSBC and BNP Paribas to support their respective generative AI initiatives. ABN Amro previously migrated its conversational AI ecosystem to Microsoft Copilot Studio in 2024 to enhance its customer-facing agent, Anna, and its employee support agent, Abby.
