AccessMule Launches SMB Access Management Platform Following Research on Cybersecurity Gaps

Share It:

AccessMule, a new cybersecurity company established and controlled by Apple device management and security leader Mosyle, has publicly released its integrated Access & Password Management platform tailored for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

The platform aims to address critical needs of SMBs and similar organizations concerning the granting, management, auditing, sharing, storage, and removal of employee access. This launch follows comprehensive research conducted by AccessMule in partnership with a leading research agency, involving 400 senior decision-makers from United States-based organizations with 50 to 500 employees.

The research identified a significant security gap among SMBs regarding employee access management. Findings indicate that 87% of SMB leaders report an inability to immediately verify which employees possess specific company permissions. Concurrently, 87% also confirmed delays in revoking former employees’ access, exposing a notable vulnerability. Further, nearly 90% of surveyed SMB organizations suspected or discovered that former employees retained access to company applications, often for extended periods after their departure.

Sergio Sousa, Executive Leader at AccessMule, commented on the research: “The survey results are alarming, demonstrating that common cybersecurity risks, known causes of major attacks and breaches, are likely present in nearly all small and medium businesses. Compounding this danger, SMB leaders often lack the resources to recognize what could be the primary security threat to their organizations. AccessMule was created to both highlight these risks and effectively resolve them, focusing on automation, ease-of-use, simplicity, and affordability, which are crucial for SMBs.”

AccessMule’s platform offers several capabilities designed to meet SMB access management needs. These include access tracking, granting, and removal workflows that automate onboarding and offboarding to prevent former employees from retaining, or current employees from holding, unnecessary access. Role-based access control (RBAC) features allow bulk permission assignments, simplifying the process of setting up new employees. The solution is designed for affordability and ease of deployment, requiring minimal IT integration.

The platform provides real-time visibility into all company permissions and user accounts, aiding in breach prevention and enabling immediate generation of access information for auditing or monitoring. It incorporates zero-knowledge password management for secure credential storage and enforcement of password policies via a centralized, encrypted tool. Safe password sharing features allow team members to securely use shared credentials with visibility, supported by automated rotation workflows to ensure former employees lose access. Additionally, shared multi-factor authentication (MFA) allows authorized team members to access shared MFA codes, eliminating the need for personal device storage or insecure sharing methods.

Alcyr Araujo, CEO of Mosyle, stated, “Similar to the origin of other Mosyle cybersecurity products, the decision to build AccessMule stemmed from an internal necessity. We later recognized this wasn’t an isolated gap for our organization but a fundamental problem requiring a solution for all SMBs. AccessMule is launching as an independent subsidiary, providing organizations with a high-quality, secure, and efficient access and password management platform at an affordable price, a model that has become a trademark for Mosyle.”

AccessMule, while operationally independent, is fully owned by Mosyle, which is recognized as a leader in the Apple Endpoint Management & Security market, trusted by over 65,000 organizations globally to protect more than 15 million users daily. This structure allows AccessMule to pursue its own business and product development strategies while benefiting from Mosyle’s resources and expertise. A free 30-day trial, including complimentary onboarding, is available at accessmule.com.
