Dutch neobank Bunq is reportedly seeking to divest its Irish commercial lending subsidiary, Capitalflow, to concentrate on retail banking activities in the country.
Capitalflow, a specialist lender based in Dublin, Ireland, offers asset-backed loans and flexible financing to small businesses and property investors. Bunq acquired Capitalflow in July 2021 as part of a $228 million Series A funding round. This round was led by Pollen Street Capital, which had initially acquired Capitalflow in May 2016.
Since its acquisition, Bunq has expanded Capitalflow’s loan book to €1.2 billion. This growth was supported by the acquisition of Lunar Commercial Mortgages’ €122 million loan book in February 2024 and an expansion into buy-to-let commercial mortgages in April 2026.
Reports indicate that Bunq is looking to offload Capitalflow to exit direct commercial balance-sheet lending in Ireland. The neobank intends to reallocate its efforts towards expanding its retail banking market share in the country. Bunq’s regional offerings in Ireland also include local Irish IBANs and high-yield savings accounts.
