8×8, Inc., a global business communications platform provider, has launched 8×8 Silent Mobile Authentication in the Philippines through a partnership with PLDT Enterprise, the corporate arm of PLDT, aiming to reduce mobile fraud and enhance customer verification processes.

The 8×8 Silent Mobile Authentication solution integrates PLDT Enterprise’s SmartSafe SilentAccess into the 8×8 Connect platform. SmartSafe SilentAccess, a flagship solution from the SmartSafe API suite, enables secure mobile user verification by validating users via mobile network and SIM-based signals. This method removes the need for one-time passwords (OTPs), thereby eliminating manual code entry, reducing authentication delays, and decreasing user drop-off.

The introduction of this solution addresses the rising mobile fraud rates in the Philippines, where over half of Filipinos report having been scammed at least once, a figure seven points higher than the ASEAN average. The increasing use of SMS and mobile messaging has also heightened reliance on mobile numbers for two-factor authentication and identity verification.

While SMS OTPs remain widely used, 8×8 Silent Mobile Authentication offers an alternative by silently verifying users through mobile network data. This approach aims to enhance security by mitigating common fraud vectors such as spoofing and SIM-swap attacks, while also accelerating login and transaction flows. Pilot programs have indicated higher verification success rates and lower abandonment rates compared to traditional OTP-based workflows, offering businesses flexibility in balancing security, user experience, and operational efficiency.
