Yubico, a modern cybersecurity company and creator of YubiKey hardware passkeys, has expanded its YubiKey as a Service offering with new Self-Service Ordering capabilities and an enhanced Customer Portal. These additions are designed to simplify and accelerate the deployment of phishing-resistant authentication for organizations globally, aiming to improve agility and cyber resilience.

Albert Biketi, chief product and technology officer at Yubico, highlighted the necessity for quick and frictionless deployment of phishing-resistant passkeys. Biketi stated, “As the cyber threat landscape continues evolving with AI-driven attacks, organizations need to get phishing-resistant passkeys into employees’ hands quickly and without IT friction.” He added that the expansion of YubiKey as a Service, through the Self-Service Ordering capability and Customer Portal, provides customers with the option for end users to securely self-service order YubiKeys on-demand, thus eliminating deployment friction at scale with flexibility and cost efficiency. This shift intends to reduce the logistical burden on IT departments and ensure timely access to enterprise-grade security for employees, contractors, and partners.

The new Self-Service Ordering capability allows employees and partners to manage their own YubiKey needs. IT administrators can issue email invitations, enabling users to select their preferred YubiKey form factor and input shipping details via a custom-branded web page. This feature offers several advantages, including user choice and autonomy to select models compatible with their devices, with direct shipping available across the U.

S., Canada, and Europe. It also aims to reduce operational overhead by shifting address collection and order capture to end users, thereby accelerating adoption and lessening the burden on internal help desks. Organizations can also customize the ordering portal and invite emails to align with their brand identity.

Concurrently, the enhanced Customer Portal, which replaces the former YubiEnterprise Console, is now automatically available with YubiKey as a Service. This unified workspace allows IT teams to efficiently manage YubiKey deployments and gain immediate visibility into status, inventory, and user activation. Key administrative benefits of the Customer Portal include a unified inventory overview that distinguishes between total purchased licenses and shippable keys, streamlining operations by enabling administrators to manage users, assign roles, and track shipment requests through a simplified “Deliver” section. Furthermore, the portal provides enhanced visibility with dedicated sections for purchases, delivery, and self-service ordering, offering a comprehensive view for global YubiKey management.

These new features, exclusively available through YubiKey as a Service, are designed to enable organizations to achieve phishing-resistance with hardware security keys, aiming for an elevated security posture and future-proofed security investments.

Yubico, dual-headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, and Santa Clara, California, has been instrumental in shaping global authentication standards since 2007, co-creating FIDO2, WebAuthn, and FIDO U2F. Its passkey technology is currently used by individuals and organizations in over 160 countries.
