Western Union has introduced Stablecard, a new digital wallet and Visa-secured credit card developed with stablecoin payments firm Rain, enabling users to hold, send, and spend funds globally using stablecoins.
Available through the Stablecard mobile app, the new offering allows users to receive and store balances in USDPT, a US dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Anchorage Digital Bank on the Solana blockchain. Account holders can receive Western Union money transfers directly into their USDPT balances. The card integrates with major digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, and users can spend their balances at any Visa-accepting merchant for online or in-store purchases, or withdraw cash at ATMs.
Rain provides the underlying infrastructure for the wallet and card operations. Devin McGranahan, Western Union’s CEO and president, stated, “By combining the stability of a dollar-backed digital asset with the scale of Western Union’s global network and Visa’s acceptance footprint, we’re giving consumers a new way to hold value, move money, and spend confidently across borders.”
Stablecard is currently available in 37 markets, with Western Union planning to expand its reach to over 60 territories by the end of 2026. This product launch follows Western Union’s decision, announced last month, to discontinue its European digital banking service after a review of its product and service portfolio.
