Vault12, a pioneer in crypto inheritance solutions, has announced the open-source release of its Shamir Secret Sharing plugin for Capacitor, enabling app developers to integrate quantum-safe data storage for iOS, Android, and web applications.
The plugin brings information-theoretic security—protection based on mathematical impossibility rather than computational difficulty—to modern, cross-platform app stacks. By splitting sensitive data into multiple cryptographic shards, developers can eliminate single points of failure, designing applications that maintain security even in a post-quantum computing era. This technology has been in production for a decade, tested on nearly a million iOS and Android devices as a core component of Vault12 Guard, a mobile application offering decentralized backup and inheritance for crypto wallets and other sensitive data.

Individual shares reveal no information about the original secret, thereby preventing a single point of compromise from exposing user data. Capacitor is an open-source, cross-platform native runtime that allows developers to create iOS, Android, and web applications from a single JavaScript/TypeScript codebase. It offers a consistent API and plugin system to connect web frameworks (such as React, Vue, and Angular) with native device capabilities like secure storage, biometrics, and the filesystem.
