SimplePractice, a platform for independent mental health practitioners, has launched Care Aide, an AI-powered clinical workflow assistant designed to alleviate administrative burdens for clinicians.
Developed with input from over 1,000 mental health practitioners, Care Aide expands upon SimplePractice’s HIPAA-compliant Note Taker. It introduces new tools to support clinicians across session preparation, documentation, treatment planning, intake review, and client summaries. This initiative seeks to address significant operational challenges identified in SimplePractice’s “Annual State of Private Practice Report (2025 in Review),” which highlighted administrative burden as a key issue despite high overall clinician satisfaction.
Jonathan Seltzer, CEO of SimplePractice, commented on the careful implementation of AI in healthcare, stating, “What we hear consistently from clinicians is that they want technology to act as a tool, not a decision-maker. They need support with the administrative work that takes time away from care, while keeping clinical expertise and judgment exactly where it belongs. Care Aide is built around that principle. The suite of tools within Care Aide includes: Note Taker, an existing AI-powered note-taking solution; Session Sidekick, which creates interactive discussion outlines during telehealth sessions; Client Summaries, offering clients actionable takeaways from sessions in easy-to-understand language; Treatment Planner, designed to expedite treatment plan creation by reducing manual review; and Intake Summaries, which compiles essential client details for providers to prepare for initial sessions.
SimplePractice emphasizes that its AI roadmap is purpose-built to address challenges for independent clinicians, with all AI tools being HIPAA compliant and verified through HITRUST certification to protect client data. Clinicians maintain control and are responsible for reviewing, editing, and approving all outputs before they are integrated into care documentation or shared with clients.
Care Aide is available as an add-on to all SimplePractice subscription plans. SimplePractice supports over 250,000 solo and group practitioners with practice management and EHR solutions. In 2025, the platform facilitated over 125 million sessions of care for more than 10 million individuals.
