Samsara Introduces Automated AI Coaching to Enhance Fleet Safety and Reduce Administrative Workload

Samsara Inc. (NYSE: IOT) has announced the integration of new automated coaching features into its Connected Operations Platform, aimed at supporting both fleet managers and drivers throughout the driving journey. These capabilities are designed to provide a comprehensive view of risk and scale personalized feedback through AI, enabling fleets to reduce crashes and improve safety without increasing administrative workload.

Alasdair MacKechnie, Head of Auto Liability at Inigo, stated, “Through our partnership with Samsara, we have seen a clear correlation between our insurance customers who leverage driver coaching and reduced crash rates.” MacKechnie added that “Sustained coaching through the Samsara platform can improve driver behavior, leading to fewer crashes, a reduction in loss activity, and insurance premium savings.”

Built on Samsara’s proprietary risk model, the new features assist managers in scaling coaching efforts using AI and automation. Managers can refine their feedback delivery through AI Role Play, which simulates real-world scenarios and difficult conversations with an AI “driver.” Additionally, AI Guided Coaching Sessions provide an AI-powered framework for structured, effective one-on-one coaching to inspire behavior change.

Samsara’s AI automatically reviews, prioritizes, and classifies safety events into risk categories, thereby automating safety event triage. High-risk drivers are routed for human coaching, while less risky drivers are automatically directed to self-service coaching. The system monitors over 45 risk factors, allowing managers to focus their time on drivers requiring the most support. The Safety Program Overview functions as a central command center for managers to evaluate coaching program performance, track completion and compliance, and measure the impact of automation on behavior change and risk reduction. It also provides actionable recommendations for fine-tuning programs to deliver measurable safety outcomes and consistent positive reinforcement. This scalable automated approach has demonstrated significant time savings for early adopters. Tosin Lediju, SH&E Manager at Ecolab, reported, “We pushed over 5,000 coaching events in a 30-day period to drivers. If you consider the time and effort that would have been spent reviewing all those events, that’s huge.”

Weeks after the launch of Samsara Coach, new features are available to provide continuous support to drivers. Before a shift, managers can automate a start-of-the-day audio briefing delivered directly in the cab. This personalized summary offers guidance for the day, including anticipated risks like severe weather, celebrates recent safety milestones, and reinforces positive habits. This integrates with Samsara Coach to provide holistic coverage before, during, and after shifts, including start-of-day briefings, on-the-road support via two-way audio coaching, and post-trip support through AI Avatar.

Johan Land, SVP of Product at Samsara, commented, “Safety is a continuous loop that requires support at every level of an organization. By offering end-to-end coaching for both drivers and managers, we’re moving beyond just flagging isolated errors to providing a true partner for the frontline. This is a glimpse into the future of AI-guided frontline work, making every shift safer and more efficient from start to finish.”
