S. patents covering foundational technologies for human identity verification. These patents, U.
S. Patent No. 12,561,418 and U.
S. Patent No. 12,562,904, are designed to address the challenges organizations face in confirming the real human behind digital identities and AI actions, particularly as generative AI simplifies impersonation attacks.
Generative AI has made impersonation significantly easier, according to Aaron Painter, CEO of Nametag. He stated that organizations can no longer assume an individual appearing to be an employee is genuinely that person. The increasing use of AI agents acting on behalf of employees further compounds this, necessitating new security measures to verify not only human presence but also the correct individual.
Enterprise security traditionally focused on verifying credentials and devices. However, attackers increasingly exploit the gap where they convince organizations of their legitimacy as employees. This shift requires enterprise identity systems to answer a critical question when access to a workforce account is requested: Is this person truly the employee associated with this identity? One of the newly issued patents supports Nametag’s Account Binding functionality, which securely associates a verified human with the correct account within enterprise identity systems. This capability ensures that identity information obtained during verification accurately matches the enterprise account being claimed.
Beyond initial verification, maintaining confidence in the same verified individual over time without introducing undue friction is essential. A second Nametag patent relates to technologies that enable previously verified individuals to reconfirm their identity using only a selfie. This feature, termed Selfie Chaining™ and supporting the company’s Express Reverification, allows returning users to reconfirm their identity in seconds, preserving the trusted connection between a real person and their enterprise identity.
