KarmaCheck Debuts MCP Server, Integrating Background Checks with AI Workflows

KarmaCheck has launched its Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, providing developers and AI systems direct access to its trusted screening infrastructure for identity verification, criminal background checks, and motor vehicle records (MVR) within AI-native, automated workflows.

The MCP Server allows AI systems and agents to interact with critical verification tools using prompt-based instructions, a format also utilized by developer-first platforms such as Stripe, Plaid, and Twilio. This agentic interface for verifying user identities and records aims to enable customers to integrate trust and safety infrastructure without requiring complex specifications, custom code, or extended deployment timelines.

Eric Ly, Co-founder and CEO of KarmaCheck, stated, “We’re at a turning point where AI systems are making real-world decisions. Trust infrastructure must evolve to meet that speed, and our MCP Server does just that. We’re giving teams instant access to reliable background checks, ID verifications, and MVRs in the format that is becoming standard for AI systems.”

The KarmaCheck MCP Server is designed to integrate into workflows where trust and rapid onboarding are critical, particularly for verifying identity, criminal history, or driving eligibility in dynamic, high-scale environments. This includes several key applications across industries.

For on-demand service platforms, which see nearly 24% of Americans as victims of fraud or identity theft on gig economy platforms, according to a TransUnion study, the MCP Server can automate identity verification, driving record reviews, and criminal offense screenings without requiring engineering support. Example prompts include verifying ID, motor vehicle records, and criminal background checks for new roles, or running a motor vehicle records check for a specific individual.

In professional and creative platforms, where Upwork reports 51% of hiring managers are concerned about talent credibility, KarmaCheck’s MCP can work with AI workflows to initiate screenings for high-risk or high-touch roles. Prompts can be used during signup, profile approval, or before large payouts, such as running ID verification and criminal background checks before verifying a professional coach or authorizing payouts above a certain threshold.

Mobility and delivery applications, facing potential lawsuits for crashes involving gig drivers that can cost platforms up to $4 million per incident, as found by Cambridge Mobile Telematics, can use MCP capabilities for ongoing compliance, operational flexibility, and faster onboarding cycles. This includes running motor vehicle records checks for commercial driver’s licenses or for all drivers not checked within a specified period.

For FinTech platforms and Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements, where identity fraud rose 73% between 2021 and 2023 according to Sumsub’s Identity Fraud Report, KarmaCheck’s MCP Server enables flexible, event-triggered trust checks across a customer’s tech stack. Verifications can be tied to account creation, payout thresholds, or transaction velocity, and can be used consistently across multiple products. Examples include running ID verification when a new bank account is linked or initiating a criminal background check if a user requests multiple payouts within a 30-day period.

The MCP Server is built to function in production AI environments that utilize agentic orchestration and workflow tools supporting MCP standards, such as LangChain, AWS Bedrock, n8n, and Microsoft Autogen.

Mark Lieberwitz, Chief Product Officer and Co-founder of KarmaCheck, noted, “The KarmaCheck MCP Server gives developers and AI builders a faster, leaner path to trust. It’s not just reliable. It’s accessible, natural-language promptable, and designed to reduce manual operations in high-scale environments.”

KarmaCheck plans to introduce further AI enhancements for trust and safety, including recruiting-oriented capabilities like resume analysis, improvements for healthcare credentialing, and solutions for industries such as property management. These innovations aim to enable teams to build scalable, trustworthy platforms without increasing manual review or operational complexity.

Autumn-Kyoko Cushman, CEO of ShiftRx, commented, “The future of work demands faster, more efficient ways to qualify and onboard candidates. With the launch of its MCP server, KarmaCheck is delivering just that. We chose to partner with KarmaCheck because of its innovative, tech-forward approach to background checks, and it’s exciting to see them now leading the industry in AI and MCP technology.”

KarmaCheck, a leader in modern background checks and identity verification for the AI era, was co-founded by Eric Ly, a co-founder of LinkedIn. The company focuses on enabling organizations across various industries to verify individuals quickly, safely, and fairly, assisting customers in making trust decisions at scale.
