JPX Market Innovation & Research, Inc. (JPXI) has launched two new datasets for its J-Quants Pro service, the Listed Shares Flash Data and the Listed Shares Corporate Action Factors Dataset, to provide daily updates on listed shares for corporate users.

Traditionally, the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) published the number of listed shares around the 20th of each month, detailing factors influencing changes such as capital increases, stock splits, and the exercise of subscription warrants. Market participants have increasingly requested more timely access to this information.

The newly introduced Listed Shares Flash Data and Listed Shares Corporate Action Factors address this demand by providing the latest figures daily. This eliminates the wait for monthly publications and offers immediate insights into the reasons behind day-to-day share count changes, enabling users to monitor market developments and respond more efficiently.

Key applications for the new datasets include provisional confirmation of information required for large shareholding reports and short-selling balance reports. They also support more timely estimation of market indicators, such as Price-to-Book Ratio (PBR), and enhance investment decision-making and risk management through continuous monitoring of share counts.

The Listed Shares Flash Data provides the daily number of listed shares for all TSE-listed companies, reflecting corporate actions. It includes three types of share counts: shares issued, shares listed, and shares used for index calculation. While these values ultimately converge, their timing of change may differ based on the specific corporate action.

The Listed Shares Corporate Action Factors dataset provides day-to-day differences in the number of shares and the corresponding reasons for such changes across all TSE-listed companies.

J-Quants Pro delivers market data to corporate users via API, SFTP, and Snowflake. The platform offers a range of datasets through a monthly subscription model, with the new listed shares data available from May 8, 2008. Other available datasets cover areas like trading by type of investors, financial summaries, derivatives trading, and corporate action information, with coverage periods varying.

Corporate users interested in these datasets or J-Quants Pro’s other offerings can apply through the service’s website, where data specifications and sample data are also available. Pricing and usage plans are detailed in a publicly accessible schedule. J-Quants Pro is designed exclusively for corporate users, while individual investors can access related services via the J-Quants API.
