Intel 471, a global provider of cyber threat intelligence-driven solutions, has released an updated version of its Cyber Underground General Intelligence Requirements Handbook (CU-GIRH), a framework designed to assist cybersecurity professionals in navigating and acting on underground cyber intelligence.

Developed by Intel 471 in 2018, the CU-GIRH aims to streamline intelligence prioritization and actionability for organizations, advancing cyber threat intelligence (CTI) teams worldwide.

Michael DeBolt, Chief Intelligence Officer at Intel 471, stated, “In today’s increasingly complex and volatile cyber threat landscape, intelligence no longer merely informs decisions and actions; it is the fundamental catalyst that brings those decisions and actions into tangible reality. Our unwavering commitment to empowering security professionals with the most effective tools and knowledge remains steadfast. With these latest, significant updates, the General Intelligence Requirements Handbook (CU-GIRH) is poised to continue serving as an absolutely indispensable resource for these dedicated professionals, enabling them to not only comprehend but also proactively mitigate the myriad of risks lurking within the elusive and ever-evolving cyber underground.”

The CU-GIRH has been recognized as a cornerstone for intelligence and security teams, offering an essential framework, methodologies, and insights crucial for understanding the rapidly evolving cyber landscape. By integrating the framework into intelligence programs, the CU-GIRH empowers teams to be proactive with relevant, timely insights and prioritize their focus.

Key updates in the new version include enhanced tools and frameworks with new methodologies for assessing and responding to cyber threats, in-depth insights featuring updated case studies illustrating real-world applications of cyber intelligence strategies, and improved data organization with streamlined processes for gathering, prioritizing, and disseminating vital intelligence.

By defining relevant intelligence and providing real-time customized tracking and metrics, the CU-GIRH enables practitioners to drive global threat intelligence efforts with reduced noise. Its structure and automated routing of intelligence content help teams efficiently map their intelligence requirements, matching them to relevant intelligence. These capabilities are intended to help security teams maximize CTI resources, measure CTI success, and assess their program’s return on investment (ROI).

Intel 471 also offers quarterly Intelligence Planning Workshops, where CTI managers and practitioners receive tools and training to create and employ collection plans. These workshops address challenges such as intelligence normalization, prioritization, or synchronization across languages, stakeholders, and use cases, providing an opportunity for security teams to elevate their requirements-based CTI programs with direct support and expertise from the Intel 471 team.
