iCapital, a global fintech company focused on investment solutions, announced the deployment of its distributed ledger technology (DLT) to support Morgan Stanley Wealth Management’s alternative investments business, aiming to enhance efficiencies across the alternatives industry. This initiative is designed to streamline processes such as investor onboarding, subscription document processing, pre-trade workflows, and reporting throughout the lifecycle of alternative investments.
The integration of iCapital’s DLT is part of the company’s broader strategy to drive digital transformation and improve connectivity within the alternatives sector. Its objective is to reduce operational friction, accelerate trade times, and enhance transparency for clients and the wider investment ecosystem.
Lawrence Calcano, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of iCapital, stated, “This represents an important step in our journey to transform the private markets investing experience. By integrating iCapital’s distributed ledger technology into trade workflows, we’re streamlining the alternative investment process reducing friction, accelerating time to trade, and enhancing transparency and efficiency for clients and the broader investment ecosystem. DLT continues to set new industry standards for scaling and managing alternatives.”
The DLT integration enables automated review and remediation of subscription documents between Morgan Stanley, General Partners (GPs), and Fund Administrators. By establishing a standardized data model, the technology connects stakeholders across the ecosystem, aiming to significantly reduce manual reconciliations and improve data accuracy and fidelity. This approach is intended to make the trade experience more efficient, transparent, and scalable.
Alison Nest, Managing Director and Head of Investment Solutions Products at Morgan Stanley, commented on the development, stating, “Integrating iCapital’s distributed ledger technology into our alternative investment workflows represents a meaningful, technology-enabled advancement in operational efficiency. This solution automates key trade processes, reduces manual reconciliations, and accelerates time to trade—ultimately allowing us to serve our clients while scaling connectivity across the private markets ecosystem.”
