Focal Selects Microsoft Azure Canada Central for Canadian Advisor Data Hosting

Focal, an AI-powered productivity platform for financial advisors, has selected the Microsoft Azure Canada Central data center in Toronto to host all data for Canadian advisors, reinforcing its commitment to security, privacy, and compliance by ensuring client data remains within Canadian borders.

This strategic move addresses the increasing need for secure, compliant technology as AI note-taking and workflow automation platforms gain wider adoption. By utilizing Microsoft Azure’s enterprise-grade security and performance, Focal aims to enhance advisor workflows while adhering to Office of the Privacy Commissioner (OPC) guidance and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

John Connell, CEO of Focal, emphasized the importance of secure data storage for sensitive client information, stating that local storage combined with Microsoft Azure’s capabilities offers both regulatory compliance and essential functionality for advisors. He noted this initiative is part of Focal’s broader effort to provide a customized platform that addresses the unique needs of Canadian advisors.

Focal’s platform integrates meeting assistant AI, performance coaching, and workflow automation with intelligent systems that connect and manage processes across various advisor tools, with or without an API. The platform now supports over 99 languages, including English and French, and recognizes and transcribes local financial terminology, designed to help Canadian advisors efficiently and accurately serve clients across all provinces.

Jerry Bai, Chief Product Officer at Focal, highlighted the company’s focus on Canadian-specific requirements, noting that integrating Canadian nomenclature, bilingual transcription, and AI-driven workflow automation empowers advisors to streamline administrative tasks, improve client engagement, and maximize value in every interaction.

Currently, thirty firms across Canada, managing billions in assets under management, are utilizing Focal to enhance client service and operational efficiency. This adoption underscores the demand among advisors for technology that aligns with both Canadian regulatory requirements and practical management needs.

Jason Pereira, Senior Partner at Woodgate Financial Inc. and a Focal Advisory Board member and customer, expressed confidence in using Focal due to its local data center and regulatory-compliant offering. He also highlighted Focal’s differentiated features, which combine workforce automation and performance coaching tools to streamline workflows.

Focal captures data from advisor conversations and existing software to power workflow automation and improve client service. Its features include AI note-taking, pre-meeting preparation, CRM syncing, onboarding, and Know Your Customer (KYC) workflow support, enabling advisors to save up to 50 hours per month and serve up to 30% more clients.
