Entrust Expands Partnership with Mastercard to Enhance Fraud Prevention with Integrated Identity Insights

Entrust, a global provider of identity-centric security solutions, has expanded its partnership with Mastercard to integrate Mastercard Identity insights, powered by Ekata, into the Entrust Identity Verification Security Platform. This collaboration aims to enhance fraud detection and prevention, reduce the need for manual intervention, and improve the digital onboarding experience for end-users.

Entrust is now the first Engage qualified partner to offer both Mastercard’s Digital First and Identity programs, marking a significant development in their partnership. The expansion addresses the growing challenge institutions face in balancing efficient fraud protection against increasingly sophisticated tactics like deepfakes and synthetic identities, while also providing a frictionless user experience. According to the Entrust Future of Global Identity Verification report, 66% of organizations identify identity fraud prevention and customer experience as competing priorities.

This partnership seeks to mitigate these challenges through intelligent pre-screening, which utilizes real-time risk insights from Mastercard Identity’s network to identify threats early and automate remote customer onboarding. Dennis Gamiello, Executive Vice President, Global Head of Identity at Mastercard, stated, “By combining Mastercard Identity’s insights with the Entrust Identity Security Platform, we’re helping enterprises move beyond reactive fraud detection. This partnership expansion enables a proactive, personalized approach that strengthens security while keeping the user experience seamless.”

The Entrust Identity Verification solution, enhanced with Mastercard Identity insights, targets critical issues in both regulated and non-regulated sectors through a multi-layered approach. Key features include smarter, earlier fraud prevention by separating fraudulent actors from legitimate users during the application process. This uses machine learning-powered data analytics based on user information such as name, phone number, address, and email to detect inconsistencies and suspicious patterns. Faster onboarding for legitimate users is achieved by adapting to each user’s risk profile, allowing low-risk individuals to proceed with minimal friction and applying additional checks only when necessary. Furthermore, the solution offers cost-effective, risk-based verification by automating identity verification based on real-time fraud scores, which can minimize manual reviews. One Buy Now Pay Later provider reported a 50% reduction in application abandonment and a 60% increase in passive identity verification using Mastercard’s signals.

During onboarding, users provide essential information which Entrust Identity Verification securely processes, connecting with the Mastercard Identity network to generate a fraud risk score. Unlike solutions relying solely on authoritative data, Mastercard Identity employs a multi-layered approach that contextualizes data from authoritative sources and historical usage, applying machine learning to deliver comprehensive analysis. This enables the detection of unusual behavioral patterns and anomalies that may indicate fraud. Based on these insights, Entrust Identity Verification routes users through an appropriate onboarding journey. Low-risk users proceed with minimal friction, while higher-risk users are prompted for additional identity verification, such as document or biometric verification. Businesses can customize these workflows to manage different risk levels, automating onboarding while proactively detecting and addressing fraudsters early.

Minh Nguyen, Vice President of Product, Identity Verification at Entrust, commented, “As identity fraud is on the rise, along with high costs and rising customer expectations, collaboration is crucial. Organizations have to adapt faster than ever, and this partnership helps ensure that they can leverage Mastercard’s insights through our platform to stay ahead of emerging threats. Together, we’re helping businesses combat fraud, reduce manual reviews, and onboard more customers with confidence – delivering both stronger protection and measurable business results.” Entrust will be showcasing how businesses can fight fraud, drive customer onboarding, and meet regulatory compliance at RiskX from September 8–11.
