Echoworx has announced a new capability for automated S/MIME certificate generation, leveraging an enterprise-managed Certificate Authority (CA) hosted in AWS Private CA. This integration aims to assist large, highly regulated organizations in automating certificate provisioning for boundary email encryption while maintaining control over certificate issuance.
Global enterprises are increasingly investing in cloud, AI, and modernization. Concurrently, they are seeking to issue user certificates from their own internal AWS Private CA rather than relying on external providers. This shift also includes a desire to eliminate manual workflows that can impede progress, heighten operational risks, and incur unnecessary costs. Many organizations find that paying third parties for user certificates is no longer economically viable when their own AWS CA can fulfill the requirement.
Echoworx addresses this need by securely connecting to a customer’s AWS environment. This allows for the generation of certificate requests, retrieval of signed certificates, and their subsequent deployment, all without requiring the enterprise to relinquish control of its CA or assume additional administrative burdens. The platform is fully deployed on AWS and has received recognition as qualified AWS software, offering enterprises greater assurance as they align secure communication practices with their broader cloud transformation objectives.
“Large enterprises are moving fast on major transformation initiatives, but secure communication can’t be left behind in that shift,” stated Michael Ginsberg, CEO of Echoworx. “This capability helps them drive that transformation while modernizing one of the most sensitive parts of the security stack: regulated external communication.”
The business case for this automation is direct: manual certificate processes introduce inefficiencies, add costs, and increase risk. Automating the S/MIME lifecycle enables organizations to reduce administrative overhead, enhance continuity, and support regulated communications with improved governance and auditability. For executive teams, this translates to modernization with fewer obstacles, while security and messaging teams benefit from fewer manual tasks, more consistent control, and more reliable secure communication at scale.
As organizations expand their use of AI, automate workflows, and consolidate infrastructure, secure communication must evolve at a comparable pace. Echoworx aims to facilitate this alignment.
Echoworx helps large, regulated enterprises streamline secure external communication by protecting sensitive data, strengthening compliance, and modernizing a critical aspect of the security stack. Trusted by organizations in over 30 countries, Echoworx focuses on providing secure, auditable, cloud-ready communication at scale.
