Capital markets content publishing leader BlueMatrix, backed by Thoma Bravo, has partnered with AI-powered answer engine Perplexity to introduce an AI-enabled research and discovery platform for institutional investors. This collaboration aims to integrate artificial intelligence within a governed, entitlement-aware framework, addressing the industry’s need for compliance and control while empowering buy-side professionals.
The partnership allows Perplexity Enterprise users to query their subscribed broker research content, which is managed by BlueMatrix, alongside Perplexity’s broader capabilities. These capabilities include access to real-time financial data, earnings transcripts, and advanced research tools. Investment professionals can utilize natural language queries to identify relevant insights, all without altering existing data ownership, entitlements, or compliance structures.
As buy-side teams increasingly adopt AI tools for research synthesis, this formal integration through BlueMatrix provides a compliant distribution method. It aims to replace unstructured and ungoverned AI usage, ensuring that attribution and content entitlements are preserved. This approach is designed to maintain the integrity and security of sensitive financial research within institutional boundaries.
For research firms, the partnership offers a new channel to enhance visibility among their buy-side clients. By gaining a presence within an AI-powered discovery experience, firms can reach clients more effectively while retaining full control over their content. BlueMatrix plays a crucial role by provisioning access on behalf of research providers, ensuring that only clients with established agreements can access a firm’s content. Proprietary research is protected, never used to train AI models, and remains within institutional safeguards.
Patricia Horotan, CEO of BlueMatrix, stated that the company’s priority is to help clients leverage AI benefits while preserving attributions, control, and flexibility. She added that the partnership with Perplexity delivers AI-assisted discovery to investors and researchers, aligning with BlueMatrix’s data-first and model-neutral strategy. Dmitry Shevelenko, Chief Business Officer at Perplexity, highlighted the collaboration’s ability to align AI innovation with the strict governance standards required by financial institutions, enabling investment professionals to move from questions to insights and decisions more rapidly.
The partnership is currently in an initial pilot phase, with a select group of early-adopter firms exploring AI-assisted workflows. These workflows enable buy-side professionals to pose natural-language questions, such as inquiring about broker commentary on an issuer post-earnings, and receive cited responses grounded in entitled research and Perplexity’s enterprise data sources. Use cases for the platform include issuer monitoring, post-earnings and event follow-up, and thematic research. BlueMatrix serves as the secure system of record for research authoring, compliance, and entitlements, while Perplexity Enterprise provides the AI-powered interface for deep research. A private beta is planned following integration and security reviews, with feedback from participating firms informing future features like expanded entitlement scenarios, deeper use of metadata such as RIXML, and enhanced engagement reporting.
