Bitwarden Enhances Premium and Families Plans with Proactive Identity Security Features

Bitwarden, a provider of password, passkey, and secrets management solutions, has announced significant enhancements to its Premium and Families plans. These updates introduce new protections designed to help individuals and families identify and address security risks proactively, moving beyond basic password management to a more comprehensive identity security approach.

The expanded plans target issues such as phishing, weak or reused credentials, and exposed data, which are common causes of account compromise. Key additions include vault health alerts, which highlight weak, reused, or exposed passwords directly within the vault, and password coaching, which guides users to replace at-risk credentials with strong, unique alternatives. Secure storage capacity for encrypted attachments has been increased fivefold to 5 GB, supporting the secure storage of sensitive documents and backup codes. Additionally, two-step login flexibility has been expanded to allow up to 10 security keys, including hardware keys, biometrics, and passkeys.

An upcoming feature, a phishing blocker, will proactively detect and block malicious websites before users can inadvertently enter credentials, providing an additional layer of defense against increasingly sophisticated impersonation attacks. These new capabilities are immediately available to Premium and Families subscribers and build upon existing features such as secure sharing with Bitwarden Send, email alias and masking integrations, passkey support based on FIDO2 and WebAuthn standards, vault encryption, and broad platform compatibility.

To reflect the expanded security features and ongoing product development, Bitwarden has updated the pricing for its Premium and Families plans. Premium is now available for $1.65 per month, and Families is priced at $3.99 per month for up to six users. Existing subscribers will receive 15 days’ notice prior to renewal before the new pricing takes effect. Current Premium subscribers and eligible legacy Families 2019 subscribers will receive a one-time 25% loyalty discount on their first renewal at the updated rate.

Bitwarden maintains its commitment to accessible security by continuing to offer free password and passkey management with unlimited logins across unlimited devices, a free standalone authenticator app, and a free two-person organization for secure sharing. Self-hosted options also remain available, including the recently introduced Bitwarden lite deployment for lightweight, flexible self-hosting.

Founded in 2016, Bitwarden serves over 50,000 businesses and more than 10 million users across 180 countries. The company, headquartered in Santa Barbara, California, provides open-source security solutions that enable individuals and enterprises to manage and share information securely online.
