Alpaca, a US-headquartered self-clearing broker-dealer, has announced its acceptance as a Nasdaq Exchange Member. This development aims to strengthen Alpaca’s presence in the US market and reflects its continued progression toward building in-house, full-stack brokerage infrastructure.
Nasdaq membership provides Alpaca with direct connectivity to the exchange’s order book, enabling streamlined access to its full depth of liquidity and a comprehensive suite of order types. This integration is a key step in enhancing the trading capabilities Alpaca offers for stocks, ETFs, options, and fixed income.
Tony Lee, Global Head of Brokerage at Alpaca, commented on the development, stating, “Our Nasdaq membership demonstrates Alpaca’s maturity and advancement in the financial markets, highlighting the expanding range of trading products we can deliver, connecting our users directly to one of the world’s most important equity markets.”
This milestone follows Alpaca’s recent memberships with the Fixed Income Clearing Corporation (FICC) and the Options Clearing Corporation (OCC), alongside its existing DTCC clearing status. These approvals collectively signify Alpaca’s increasing recognition as a recognized market participant.
Yoshi Yokokawa, CEO & Co-Founder of Alpaca, emphasized the company’s mission: “Alpaca’s role is to provide infrastructure that empowers partners with speed, reliability, and trust. For infrastructure to truly serve its purpose, it must stay flexible — with more choices so partners can deliver better experiences. Becoming a Nasdaq member further strengthens the full-stack foundation we’re building with our in-house technology and brokerage.”
Alpaca, which provides brokerage infrastructure, has raised over USD170 million in funding and is backed by investors including Portage Ventures, Spark Capital, Tribe Capital, Social Leverage, Horizons Ventures, Unbound, SBI Group, Derayah Financial, Elefund, and Y Combinator. Alpaca Securities LLC, a member of FINRA and SIPC, is a wholly owned subsidiary of AlpacaDB, Inc., which offers the technology and services.
