Allianz SE and Anthropic have announced a global partnership focused on accelerating the adoption of responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) within Allianz Group, with three initial projects aimed at empowering employees, streamlining operations, and enhancing accuracy.

The collaboration addresses critical AI challenges in the insurance sector. Oliver Bäte, CEO of Allianz SE, stated, “With this partnership, Allianz is taking a decisive step to address critical AI challenges in insurance. Anthropic’s focus on safety and transparency complements our strong dedication to customer excellence and stakeholder trust. Together, we are building solutions that prioritize what matters most to our customers while setting new standards for innovation and resilience.” Dario Amodei, CEO and Co-Founder of Anthropic, added, “Insurance is an industry where the stakes of using AI are particularly high: the decisions can affect millions of people. Allianz and Anthropic both take that very seriously, and we look forward to working together to make insurance better for those who depend on it.”

The partnership will concentrate on three key areas of collaboration. The first project involves empowering people and reimagining code with AI. Anthropic’s “Claude” models, built to meet unique insurance requirements, will be integrated into Allianz’s internal AI platform, accessible to all Allianz employees. Specifically, “Claude Code” is already being used by thousands of Allianz developers globally for software development. Model Context Protocols (MCPs) will facilitate secure connection and integration of various data sources across applications and services.

The second initiative focuses on Agentic AI Automation for speed and customer excellence. Allianz and Anthropic are developing custom AI agents designed to orchestrate multi-step workflows and automate labor-intensive processes at scale. This includes tasks from intake documentation to claims processing in areas such as motor and health insurance, aiming for fewer manual steps, faster first payments, and improved claimant experience. Allianz maintains a human-in-the-loop principle, ensuring that employees handle sensitive or complex cases to manage claims empathically.

The third project aims to drive Transparency and Compliance with AI. The partnership is co-developing AI systems that log every decision, rationale, and data source. This is intended to address insurance-specific risks and regulatory requirements, ensuring that all AI-driven actions are fully traceable and compliant.

This partnership is built upon shared principles, with Anthropic’s emphasis on AI safety, reflected in its Responsible Scaling Policy and constitutional AI principles, aligning with Allianz’s long-standing dedication to customer centricity, stakeholder trust, and regulatory excellence. The goal is to develop AI that supports human decision-making, safeguards customers, and minimizes risk.

Allianz has a track record of improving customer experiences through AI. For instance, an Allianz Partners voice assistant provides roadside assistance in multiple languages, prioritizing urgent calls. Allianz Australia has implemented an AI solution to automate food spoilage claims resulting from power outages, significantly reducing turnaround times. Additionally, Allianz Versicherungs-AG utilizes AI to process pet insurance invoices within four hours. The company aims to elevate the customer experience at every touchpoint using AI.

To facilitate the successful application of AI, Allianz is investing in upskilling its employees through various global learning programs, recognizing that AI skills are essential for its workforce.
