Aleo Network Foundation Joins Global Dollar Network, Bringing Privacy-First Layer 1 Blockchain to Stablecoin Ecosystem

The Aleo Network Foundation, which oversees the Aleo Network—a privacy-focused infrastructure for secure and programmable global payments—has announced its inclusion in the Global Dollar Network (GDN), making it the first Layer 1 blockchain to join the rapidly expanding stablecoin network.

The Global Dollar Network, powered by the USDG stablecoin, includes financial institutions and technology companies such as Robinhood, Worldpay, Kraken, Anchorage Digital, and Paxos. Aleo’s integration is aimed at addressing a gap in the stablecoin ecosystem by enabling programmable, encrypted payments through its unique architecture.

BJ Mahal, Head of Partnerships at The Aleo Foundation, stated that joining the Global Dollar Network represents both an acknowledgment of Aleo’s distinctive technology stack and an opportunity to influence the future of financial systems. He also highlighted Aleo’s mission to place programmable privacy at the core of blockchain innovation.

Initially, The Aleo Network Foundation plans to utilize USDG for internal treasury management and vendor payments. Its participation is expected to open new avenues for institutional and developer applications, particularly in scenarios where data sensitivity, confidentiality, and user protection are critical considerations for blockchain adoption.

The move comes at a time when digital asset adoption faces challenges related to privacy and compliance, even as policymakers globally advocate for regulated stablecoin frameworks. Despite the stablecoin market reaching a $270 billion market capitalization and processing $27.6 trillion in volume in 2024, less than 0.01% of this activity is fully encrypted. This lack of encryption leaves institutions, merchants, and users potentially exposed, underscoring privacy as a crucial element for mainstream blockchain integration.

The Aleo Network functions as a privacy-first infrastructure layer for digital payments, leveraging zero-knowledge cryptography to combine end-to-end encryption with smart contract programmability. This approach is designed to introduce privacy, compliance, and scalability to stablecoins and blockchain-based financial systems. The Foundation, headquartered in the U.

S., is supported by investors including a16z, Softbank, and Coinbase Ventures, focusing on developing secure, on-chain financial infrastructure.

The Global Dollar Network is driven by Global Dollar (USDG), a US dollar-backed stablecoin issued by Paxos Digital Singapore and Paxos Issuance Europe. It operates a transparent economic model designed to reward contributing partners. USDG is currently available on the Solana, Ink, and Ethereum blockchains.
