Interactive Brokers Launches Tax-Advantaged Investment Account for Swedish Investors

Interactive Brokers has introduced the Investeringssparkonto (ISK) in Sweden, providing individual investors with a new tax-advantaged and easily manageable account designed for efficient and cost-effective investment in international assets. The ISK offers a streamlined approach for Swedish residents to pursue investment goals and savings.

Through the ISK, eligible Swedish investors gain access to a broad selection of foreign stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and other funds under a simplified tax framework. The account supports funding in Swedish Krona (SEK) and integrates with Interactive Brokers’ comprehensive global platform without incurring additional custody charges.

Milan Galik, Chief Executive Officer at Interactive Brokers, stated that the launch of the ISK underscores the company’s commitment to European growth and aims to offer Swedish investors a straightforward method to commence their investment journey or achieve their savings objectives through a tax-efficient account.

Key features of the ISK for Swedish investors include tax-advantaged savings, where capital gains are not taxed; instead, the Swedish Tax Authority calculates an annual standardized tax based on the account’s average value and contributions. It simplifies management by eliminating the need to report individual transactions on tax returns and offers flexibility to construct globally diversified portfolios. Furthermore, funds can be withdrawn at any time, as taxation is managed annually at the account level.

Interactive Brokers also provides Swedish clients with General Investment Accounts, offering access to over 160 global markets and a wide array of asset classes, including stocks, options, futures, currencies, bonds, and funds. These accounts operate through a single, advanced trading platform that facilitates funding and trading in up to 28 currencies, including SEK. Investors using the ISK also benefit from Interactive Brokers’ broader platform advantages, such as low-cost access to US and global equities, with US exchange-listed stocks having commissions that are lower than those of many traditional brokers.

Interactive Brokers plans to expand the ISK offering soon by incorporating locally traded equities, ETFs, and derivatives. Additionally, the platform will enable investors to transfer existing ISKs from other brokers.
