Xsolla, a global commerce company for video game developers, has expanded its payment solutions across Europe by integrating Bizum in Spain, Swish in Sweden, and Satispay in Italy, enhancing checkout experiences for players and developers through Xsolla Pay Station.

Xsolla’s strategic expansion introduces these regionally preferred payment methods to address the specific needs of the European gaming market, which is projected to reach nearly $85 billion in 2025 and grow to over $112 billion by 2029. The integration aims to provide secure, seamless, and culturally familiar checkout flows, aligning with the increasing global demand for fast, secure, and mobile-optimized payment options.

Bizum, a prominent payment service in Spain, boasts over 28 million active users and processes more than 80 million transactions monthly. Initially designed for peer-to-peer transfers, Bizum has expanded its functionality to include payments in physical stores and across social media platforms, capturing approximately 15% of Spain’s digital payment market. Its direct integration into major Spanish banking applications simplifies the user experience by eliminating the need for additional app downloads.

In Sweden, Swish is utilized by approximately 8.5 million citizens, accounting for over 39% of checkout payments. In 2023, Swish processed more than 1 billion transactions across both personal and business use cases, representing around 17% of the digital payment market in the country. Supported by Sweden’s leading banks, Swish offers a streamlined interface compatible with both Android and iOS devices.

Satispay, an Italian payment solution, serves over 5.3 million users and partners with more than 380,000 merchants. The service has demonstrated a 30% year-over-year growth and is extending its financial services into additional European markets. Satispay bypasses traditional card networks, facilitating a private and efficient transaction flow that does not require users to share card or bank details. It holds roughly 5% of the digital payment market in Italy.

These integrated alternative payment methods primarily utilize QR-based transaction flows. For desktop users, payments are initiated by scanning a QR code with a mobile device and confirming the purchase within the respective payment app. Mobile users are redirected directly to the corresponding application for a quick payment confirmation. All checkout flows are localized to the player’s native language, aiming to ensure intuitive and frictionless transactions.

Chris Hewish, President at Xsolla, commented on the significance of this expansion: “In Europe’s diverse and rapidly evolving payment landscape, localization isn’t optional; it’s essential. By adding support for Bizum, Swish, and Satispay, we’re giving developers the tools to succeed across key European markets.” Xsolla, headquartered in Los Angeles, California, functions as a merchant of record and supports over 1,500 game developers globally in funding, distributing, marketing, and monetizing their games.
