IRA Financial Integrates Traditional and Alternative Investments in Single Self-Directed Retirement Accounts

IRA Financial has announced an integration designed to allow investors to manage both alternative assets and traditional investments within a single self-directed retirement account for a flat fee. This new offering, powered by Interactive Brokers, enables IRA Financial clients to trade a broad range of assets directly.

Investors can now execute trades for stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), options, bonds, currencies, and mutual funds alongside alternative assets such as real estate, private equity, precious metals, and cryptocurrencies. This unified approach aims to provide investors with increased diversification, control, and convenience in managing their retirement portfolios.

Historically, investors often had to choose between traditional brokerage IRAs, which typically limit investments to stocks and mutual funds, or self-directed accounts focused primarily on alternative assets. IRA Financial’s new capability aims to bridge this gap, aligning with what the company describes as the original vision for IRAs when they were established nearly 50 years ago: broader investment freedom and control.

Tyler Northrup, CEO of IRA Financial, stated, “Our clients don’t want to juggle multiple platforms just to build a diversified retirement strategy, they want one place where they can manage both their alts and traditional investments. This new capability gives them exactly that: real-time trading for traditional assets in the same tax-advantaged, self-directed retirement account where they also have the ability to invest in nearly unlimited alternative assets.”

IRA Financial, a provider of self-directed retirement solutions, emphasizes that this expanded access to traditional assets further distinguishes its offerings from other self-directed retirement custodians. The company currently provides real-time crypto trading and focuses on intuitive technology, in-house compliance services, and flat, transparent fees that do not scale with account balances.

Adam Bergman, founder of IRA Financial, a tax attorney and author, commented, “For too long, retirement investors have been forced into a system that limits what they can invest in. We’re changing that. By integrating traditional investments through Interactive Brokers, we’ve created a platform where investors are no longer boxed in. They can invest in anything the law allows, all in one account, with total control. This is how retirement investing should have always worked.”

This new traditional investing capability is part of IRA Financial’s broader platform evolution, designed to make self-directed investing more accessible. The firm aims to eliminate the need for investors to maintain multiple accounts, custodians, or fragmented strategies, enabling them to construct diversified retirement portfolios combining public market and private investments within a single flat-fee structure.
