Megaport Launches Integrated DDoS Protection for Enhanced Network Resilience

Megaport Limited (ASX: MP1), a global automated infrastructure platform, has announced the introduction of Megaport DDoS Protection, a new security feature integrated directly into its Megaport Internet service, designed to filter malicious traffic within the company’s network to ensure uptime without introducing latency or complexity.

Enterprises are increasingly adopting distributed cloud environments, which has challenged traditional DDoS mitigation solutions. Standard Internet Service Provider (ISP) approaches often involve taking services offline by dropping all traffic, while external third-party providers can introduce significant latency and complexity by rerouting traffic through public infrastructure.

Megaport DDoS Protection aims to address these issues by integrating “fabric-native” protection directly into the Megaport network. This approach allows traffic to remain on its intended private network path, avoiding diversions and maintaining performance even when under attack, thereby bridging the gap between basic ISP tools and advanced enterprise security solutions.

Michael Reid, CEO at Megaport, emphasized the evolving role of network security. “Network resilience is now a core infrastructure requirement, not an optional extra,” Reid stated. “Moving DDoS protection inside the network layer rather than treating it as a bolt-on service eliminates the traditional trade-offs between security, performance, and cost. It takes users less than a minute to deploy Megaport Internet, and its native DDoS protection works to keep digital services available and high-performing regardless of external threats.”

Key features of Megaport DDoS Protection include fabric-native mitigation, which filters traffic within the Megaport network, eliminating the need for external traffic redirection and reducing latency. The solution offers rapid deployment, being fully self-service and accessible via the Megaport Portal in under 60 seconds. Targeted protection ensures that mitigation occurs at the host/IP level, filtering only malicious traffic while allowing the rest of the network to operate normally.

Furthermore, the service introduces simplified pricing based on connection capacity rather than attack size or frequency, moving away from unpredictable, attack-based cost models. Operational simplicity is enhanced through pre-configured protection profiles that distinguish between legitimate traffic surges and attack patterns, minimizing the need for manual tuning. The service provides both passive and active mitigation modes, specifically targeting Layer 3 and Layer 4 attacks, and is designed for environments where downtime has significant financial and brand implications.

This launch aligns with Megaport’s strategic evolution to deliver a comprehensive connectivity experience, where network performance and protection are managed as integrated components of its infrastructure. Headquartered in Brisbane, Australia, Megaport provides a global automated infrastructure platform operating in over 1,100 enabled locations worldwide, and is ISO/IEC 27001 certified.
