Interactive Brokers, an automated global electronic broker, has launched Coinbase Derivatives, LLC nano Bitcoin and nano Ether futures contracts on its platform, offering eligible clients a regulated and cost-effective method to gain cryptocurrency exposure and manage risk with 24/7 trading availability. These new products are available with monthly expirations or as perpetual-style contracts.
The newly introduced nano futures are smaller-sized contracts, specifically 0.01 Bitcoin and 0.10 Ether. This sizing strategy aims to lower entry costs and facilitate more precise position management for traders. Concurrently, perpetual-style futures are designed as long-dated contracts that closely track the spot price of the underlying cryptocurrency, thereby reducing the necessity for frequent contract rollovers.
Milan Galik, Chief Executive Officer of Interactive Brokers, commented on the development, stating that “Perpetual-style crypto futures have become popular with traders because they provide long-dated exposure and greater flexibility.” He further added, “By offering nano-sized Bitcoin and Ether futures on a regulated exchange, we are expanding access to these products with smaller contract sizes and lower margin requirements, alongside the broad range of global markets available on our platform.”
Greg Tusar, Co-CEO of Coinbase Institutional, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration, noting, “We’re pleased to collaborate with Interactive Brokers to expand access to regulated crypto derivatives. These nano sized contracts are designed to lower the barrier to entry and give more investors the ability to engage with digital assets in a secure and regulated environment.”
Clients of Interactive Brokers can access more than 170 markets worldwide and trade both traditional instruments and digital assets from a single platform. The Coinbase Derivatives contracts offer transparent trading within a regulated exchange environment with lower capital requirements.
Eligibility to trade in crypto-related products may vary based on jurisdiction. Coinbase Derivatives contracts operate 24/7, with the exception of a scheduled exchange maintenance window on Fridays from 17:00 to 18:00 Eastern Time.
