1Password, a company specializing in identity security and Extended Access Management (XAM), has announced a partnership with Perplexity to integrate its credential management, secure autofill, and access control features into Comet, Perplexity’s newly launched AI-powered web browser.
The collaboration aims to enable secure AI adoption by embedding 1Password’s security capabilities directly into Comet. Users of both 1Password and Comet can install the 1Password browser extension to manage logins, autofill credentials, and securely access accounts while navigating the AI-enhanced internet. This initiative reflects 1Password’s focus on ensuring that productivity and security are integrated from the outset in AI tools.
Anand Srinivas, VP of Product and AI at 1Password, commented on the evolving internet landscape. “The internet is entering a new chapter, one where AI is woven into everything we do,” Srinivas stated. “No matter how intelligent our tools become, they only succeed if people can trust them. At 1Password, we believe security must be part of the foundation when building AI products, not an afterthought. Partnering with Perplexity on Comet shows what’s possible when AI and security are designed to work together from the start: an online experience that’s powerful, seamless, and safer for everyone.”
AI-native browsers like Comet address needs not met by traditional browsers, necessitating an evolution in security. As Perplexity’s initial security launch partner, 1Password has developed a Comet-compatible browser extension, available at no cost to all 1Password customers. This extension facilitates safer and easier access to credentials, offering benefits such as privacy-first browsing, seamless autofill for usernames, passwords, and 2FA codes, safer access through end-to-end encryption, stronger protection via the generation and saving of strong, unique passwords and passkeys, and credential synchronization across devices, operating systems, and browsers.
Dmitry Shevelenko, Chief Business Officer at Perplexity, highlighted the importance of integrated security. “Comet is designed to make AI-powered browsing effortless and productive, but that experience only works if security is also built in from the start,” Shevelenko said. “1Password stands apart in making security simple, combining privacy, transparency, and usability in a way that delivers both trust and a seamless user experience. Together, we’re bringing an internet experience that is effortless, productive, and secure by default.”
1Password’s approach to AI security emphasizes privacy, transparency, and trust. Its architecture employs end-to-end encryption and a zero-knowledge design to protect sensitive information, while users retain control over what AI tools can access. This philosophy guides 1Password’s technology development and partnership strategies, exemplified by the collaboration with Perplexity, which seeks to merge AI-driven productivity with trusted security for widespread secure AI adoption.
Existing 1Password customers will receive an email offering early access to the Comet browser as a result of this partnership.
1Password, serving over 165,000 businesses and millions of consumers, is known for pioneering Extended Access Management (XAM), a cybersecurity category tailored for current work environments involving both people and AI agents. Its platform aims to enhance productivity without compromising security by securing sign-ins across various applications and devices, including those not typically managed by legacy identity and access management tools.
