Zania, an agentic AI company specializing in security governance, risk, and compliance (GRC), announced today it has closed an oversubscribed $18 million Series A funding round, led by NEA, to scale its AI-powered solutions for complex compliance workflows.
The investment arrives as regulatory complexity intensifies globally. A 2024 Fineksus report indicated that global anti-money-laundering (AML) enforcement penalties reached a record $19.3 billion in 2024. Furthermore, a study by Oxford Economics revealed that 95% of organizations have increased compliance budgets by approximately 12% year-over-year. Despite these investments, many legacy GRC tools offer dashboards that identify issues but still require significant manual intervention from large teams.
In response to this market need, Zania provides domain-specific AI “teammates” designed to execute GRC tasks such as risk assessments, evidence collection, controls testing, and gap analyses. These AI agents aim to compress workflows that historically took months into minutes. For example, Zania’s Gap Assessment module can process thousands of policies and evidence files across more than 80 languages, map them to hundreds of control requirements, and identify deficiencies efficiently.
Since its launch, Zania has achieved 10x ARR growth in the past six months, demonstrating significant market traction. Recent customer acquisitions include fintech leader Plaid, global accounting and advisory firm Grant Thornton, Stanford University, and one of the Big Four accounting firms. Zania has also established strategic alliances with major consulting and IT services providers, including Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and HCLTech, to extend the reach of its AI compliance agents.
Shruti Gupta, Founder and CEO of Zania, commented on the company’s progress, stating, “Zania has experienced explosive growth in revenue and customers since we launched our first AI agents late last year. We’re excited to continue revolutionizing the security risk, compliance, and audit space by transforming it from tools that merely organize work into true AI teammates that execute highly complex and critical tasks from start to finish.”
The $18 million Series A funding round was led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA), a global venture capital firm with over $28 billion in cumulative committed capital. Additional participants in the round included Anthology Fund (backed by Menlo Ventures and Anthropic), Palm Drive Capital, and a syndicate of senior executives from companies such as Amazon, Airbnb, PayPal, ByteDance, Reddit, Roblox, and PwC.
Zania plans to utilize the new capital to address increasing market demand by tripling its engineering and go-to-market teams. The funds will also accelerate the development of its agentic AI platform, which orchestrates complex, end-to-end compliance workflows beyond mere tracking to active execution.
Mustafa Neemuchwala, Partner at NEA, highlighted the market challenges: “Cybersecurity GRC is mission-critical, yet workflows remain manual, painful, and impossible to scale.” He added, “Shruti and the team at Zania bring together a rare combination of battle-tested cybersecurity, GRC, and agentic AI expertise, giving enterprises minutes-not-months speed. Their strong product-market fit is already driving rapid adoption, and we’re thrilled to lead Zania’s Series A.”
Kenneth Moras, Head of Security GRC at Plaid, provided a customer perspective, noting, “Zania’s AI agents have made our risk assessments dramatically faster and more efficient. By automating evidence collection and analysis, they turned a manual marathon into a sprint, freeing our team to focus on strategic risk management.”
Zania is dedicated to developing domain-specific agents for security, risk, compliance, and audit, engineered for accuracy and security. The company states its solutions enable enterprises, including Fortune 500 companies and top audit advisory firms, to perform critical GRC work significantly faster and more cost-effectively, achieving results up to 30 times faster and at 90% lower cost, with over 94% accuracy. The Zania leadership team has previous experience in AI and security roles at companies such as Microsoft, Deloitte, Bain & Company, Airbnb, Instacart, Brex, and PwC.
