Xsolla, a global commerce company focused on the gaming industry, has announced a strategic partnership with Adyen, a financial technology platform. This collaboration supports the launch of Xsolla Payment Service Provider (PSP), a new solution designed for game studios seeking to operate as their own Merchant of Record (MoR) while leveraging Xsolla’s payment infrastructure.
The Xsolla PSP aims to give developers direct control over their payment experiences, including tax handling, compliance, end-user relationships, and revenue management. The service offers global coverage across more than 200 markets and 160 currencies. This model supplements Xsolla’s existing MoR services, providing an alternative path for payment control and player relationship ownership, particularly in markets where game studios have a local presence.
Initially, the service will be available to eligible merchants registered in Hong Kong, with plans for phased expansion into Europe, Singapore, and the United States as regional licenses are secured. Key features of Xsolla PSP include customizable checkout experiences, global card payment support via Adyen’s acquiring capabilities, and flexible payment functionalities such as tokenization, one-time and recurring billing, partial/full refunds, and tax calculation at checkout.
The service also offers advanced reporting and analytics for real-time transaction visibility and insights into buyer behavior. Integrations are facilitated through secure APIs within Xsolla’s commerce ecosystem. The partnership combines the expertise of both Xsolla and Adyen in the gaming and fintech sectors.
Trevor Nies, SVP and Global Head of Digital at Adyen, commented on the collaboration, stating, “Adyen’s unified financial technology platform will empower game developers to streamline global payment processing, enhance player monetization strategies, and, together with Xsolla, will ultimately drive greater success in the market.”
Chris Hewish, President of Xsolla, highlighted the developer-focused aspect, noting, “With Adyen as our global acquiring partner, we’re delivering a solution that meets these needs at scale, supporting developers who want to grow their businesses on their terms.” The Xsolla + Adyen partnership is expected to enhance Xsolla’s PSP offering through Adyen’s global acquiring network, broader international reach, and scalable commerce tools.
This service is particularly suitable for gaming marketplaces, skill-based platforms, live-streaming services, donation ecosystems, and developers who prioritize ownership of player relationships and user experience at checkout. With the introduction of the PSP model, Xsolla now offers two distinct options for game developers: the traditional Merchant of Record (MoR) for a fully managed commerce solution, and the Payment Service Provider (PSP) for studios seeking to maintain their own MoR. This launch reflects Xsolla’s ongoing commitment to developing tailored solutions for the evolving needs of the gaming industry.
