Xsolla, a global video game commerce company, has launched Mercado Pago as a new local payment method in Uruguay, aiming to provide game developers with enhanced capabilities for delivering mobile-first payment experiences to players in the region.

This integration is part of Xsolla’s strategy to strengthen its presence in Latin America, a region where Uruguay stands out for its digital adoption. Players in the country expect payment experiences that are both seamless and familiar.

Mercado Pago, recognized as Uruguay’s most popular digital wallet, serves over 60 million active users across Latin America and accounts for approximately 77% of wallet-based online payments in the region. Its introduction aims to offer familiar and trusted payment solutions, leveraging its brand recognition at checkout.

The integration provides several advantages for both developers and players. Players can utilize multiple funding options, including linked cards, bank accounts, or wallet balances, all within a unified experience. For developers, Mercado Pago supports automated subscriptions, simplifying recurring payments and potentially improving player retention. Transactions are processed in real-time, which is expected to reduce friction and increase conversion rates.

Beyond Uruguay, the regional reach of Mercado Pago allows developers to extend their coverage to other markets where the digital wallet is widely adopted, such as Brazil, Chile, and Mexico. Chris Hewish, President at Xsolla, stated that integrating Mercado Pago in Uruguay provides developers with a powerful tool to engage players using their preferred local payment methods.

Xsolla’s continues to expand its global payment ecosystem through such integrations, with the objective of enabling developers to reach a wider audience, increase the success rate of transactions, and grow their revenue across global markets. Headquartered in Los Angeles, California, Xsolla operates as a merchant of record and supports over 1,500 game developers in funding, distributing, marketing, and monetizing their games worldwide.
