Worldpay, a global leader in payment technology, has announced its support for the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), an open standard designed to facilitate AI-powered commerce by enabling AI agents, individuals, and businesses to conduct purchases collaboratively.

This integration will soon allow U.

S.-based ChatGPT users to shop directly from participating Worldpay merchants through Instant Checkout. Worldpay’s credential management and advanced fraud prevention tools are intended to ensure transactions are secure and reliable, protecting consumer data in a manner consistent with traditional e-commerce.

Cindy Turner, chief product officer at Worldpay, stated, “For agentic commerce to truly scale, it must deliver seamless, secure payments that both consumers and merchants can trust.” She added that Worldpay’s credential management focuses on safeguarding payment data and updating it to mitigate failed transactions, developing multi-agent solutions for scalable growth. “By integrating with OpenAI’s Agentic Commerce Protocol, we’re empowering merchants to stay ahead as AI transforms the shopping experience.”

Worldpay’s credential-management solution offers features such as flexible, acquirer-agnostic token management, automatic credential updates to reduce failed transactions, and enterprise-grade security for sensitive data. This approach aims to help merchants confidently adopt AI commerce use cases.

As the landscape of agentic commerce evolves, Worldpay emphasizes a merchant-centric strategy to minimize consumer friction. The company is working to make integration with emerging frameworks, including OpenAI ACP and Delegated Payment specifications, as seamless as possible, fostering smooth and secure checkout experiences for consumers.

Worldpay’s efforts to enable effortless onboarding, regardless of a merchant’s current payment processor, are designed to reduce technical barriers and accelerate adoption. This initiative also aims to empower merchants to achieve multi-agent interoperability across various platforms, ensuring they can adapt to the rapid evolution of agent-led commerce.

Turner further noted, “Collaboration and a commitment to open, connected ecosystems will fuel the next wave of innovation. We’re building for the ecosystem of AI agents that will define commerce tomorrow, leveraging open frameworks like ACP.” She concluded that Worldpay’s token management, credential intelligence, and strategic partnerships provide merchants with the foundational support needed to compete effectively.
